  • Patent number: 9554305
Abstract: Embodiments of User Equipment (UE) and methods to support reception of content for use by an application supported by a Port Control Protocol (PCP) client are disclosed herein. The UE may receive, from a PCP server, a first portion of video content for use by the application during a first time period. The UE may send a PCP update message that includes one or more mobility status parameters. The UE may receive a second portion of the video content for use by the application during a second time period. The first and second portions of the video content may be received from a first and a second mobility anchor, which may operate as relays for the PCP server. • Patent number: 9537546
Abstract: A system and method are provided to increase data rates available in mmWave wireless communication systems by adapting a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a next generation mmWave wireless communication system. The system and method advantageously employ the characteristics of mmWave antenna arrays, including multiple antenna elements in each antenna array, to implement the MIMO scheme by establishing multiple beamformed communication links between a mmWave transmitter and receiver. An outgoing signal is divided into multiple signal elements to correspond to the multiple beamformed links and each of the multiple signal elements is transmitted by the transmitter across a different one of the multiple beamformed links to be reassembled at the receiver. An antenna element allocation scheme is incorporated to assign specific numbers and configurations of antenna elements at each of the transmitted and receiver to each of the multiple beamformed communication links.

  • Patent number: 9531446
Abstract: A system and method are provided for using location services available from other radios in a multi-radio system to assist a beamforming mechanism, particularly in establishing and maintaining mmWave communication link. A majority of wireless client devices for use in a mmWave communication link are equipped with multiple radios. Many of the “other” radios include technologies that support location based services, including GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular communications. One or more non-mmWave in one device is used to provide relative location information regarding the other device with which the mmWave communication link is to be established. The relative location information is used to derive a direction for communication, and to compute beamforming parameters, in a limited set of transmit/receive sectors where the destination device is likely to be found, in order to streamline the beamforming process.

  • Publication number: 20150373075
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems, and software for implementing context adaptive video streaming using multiple streaming connections. Original video content is split into multiple bitstreams at a video streaming server and streamed to a video streaming client. Higher-importance video content, such as I-frames and the base layer for scalable video coder (SVC) content are streamed over a high-priority streaming connection, while lower-importance video content is streamed over a low-priority streaming connection. The high-priority streaming connection may employ a reliable connection protocol such as TCP protocol, while the lower-priority connection may employ UDP or a modified TCP protocol under which some portions of the bitstream may be dropped. Cross-layer context adaptive streaming may be implemented under which context data such as network context and video application context information may be considered to adjust parameters associated with implement one or more streaming connections.
