  • Patent number: 11748196
Abstract: A method for more efficiently utilizing storage space in a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method implements a RAID from multiple storage drives. The RAID utilizes data striping with distributed parity values to provide desired data protection/redundancy. The distributed parity values are placed on selected storage drives of the RAID in accordance with a designated parity rotation. The method further adaptively alters the parity rotation of the RAID to provide an increased concentration of parity values in certain storage drives of the RAID compared to other storage drives of the RAID. This parity rotation may be adapted based on residual storage capacity in each storage drive, consumed space in each storage drive, or the like. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11157361
Abstract: A method for more efficiently utilizing storage space in a set of storage drives is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method implements, in a set of storage drives, a first RAID utilizing data striping with distributed parity values. The method further implements, in a subset of the set of storage drives, a second RAID using residual storage space in storage drives belonging to the subset. Storage drives belonging to the subset may have a storage capacity that is larger than storage drives not belonging to the subset. In certain embodiments, the method adaptively alters a parity rotation of the first RAID to provide an increased concentration of parity values in certain storage drives of the first RAID compared to other storage drives of the first RAID. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8540897
Abstract: Systems and methods for gasifying a feedstock are provided. A feedstock can be introduced to a riser. A first oxidant can be introduced to a first mixing zone within the riser, thereby generating a first high temperature zone within the first mixing zone proximate an entry point of the first oxidant. A first stream of water can be introduced to the first high temperature zone to reduce the temperature therein. A second oxidant can be introduced to a second mixing zone within the riser, thereby generating a second high temperature zone within the second mixing zone proximate an entry point of the second oxidant. A second stream of water can be introduced to the second high temperature zone to reduce the temperature therein. The feedstock and the first and second oxidants can be gasified in a gasification zone within the riser.

  • Publication number: 20070175141
Abstract: An system and method for forming an elevated deck and support beam within a structure enables the pouring of one or a succession of superposed decks above a surface such as a floor, the ground or other supporting surface. The system includes a plurality of profiles which alone or in combination define concrete-receiving reservoirs for forming poured in place support beams, with the elevated deck being poured contemporaneously therewith for support on the beams. The profiles include first and second preferably divergent sidewalls which are connected by middle member which serves as a base or bridge between the sidewalls. The profiles are complementally configured to nest with one another to provide a span across structural walls, and may be provided with complementally configured end caps.

  • Patent number: 4015856
Abstract: A stabilizer mechanism for controlling swaying of a towed vehicle with respect to the corresponding towing vehicle. A first section of a cable is coupled to one lateral side of a rear end of a towing vehicle and is coupled to a force transferring mechanism mounted on the towed vehicle. A second section of the cable passes from the force transferring mechanism and is coupled to the opposite lateral side of the rear end of the towing vehicle. In this manner the cable effectively transfers a force indicative of the relative angular movement between the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle to the force transferring mechanism. A force absorbing mechanism is coupled to receive an output force from the force transferring mechanism and serves to dampen sudden forces applied to the force transferring mechanism.

  • Patent number: 3995980
Abstract: A three-compartment, heated-environment conveyor structure equipped with individual compartment material-lay-down delivery systems, processing a three-layer building panel material product, continuously, by compartment-to-compartment material laydown, as the product buildup is conveyor-advanced through the machine. The apparatus and process is for manufacturing a continuously extruded running length of construction paneling from continuous flow sources of thermoplastic material bits and a mixture thereof with cellulose fiber bits, by successively fusing and pressure rolling even-distribution layers of thermoplastic bits, a mixture of thermoplastic and cellulose fiber bits, and, again, thermoplastic bits, in respective ones of three cascaded oven chambers through which a material carrying conveyor is selectively advanced.
