Publication number: 20230149689Abstract: A method of selecting a breakaway connector apparatus for attachment to a needle-free connector on an intravenous (IV) line is provided. The method includes providing a needle-free connector for attachment to a breakaway connector. The needle-free connector includes a push-out force associated with the needle-free connector. The method further includes identifying the push-out force imparted by the needle-free connector, and identifying a desired range of separation force associated with separating a first portion of the IV line from a second portion of the IV line. The method further includes selecting a breakaway connector device including a housing and a breakaway component that is configured to detach from the housing when a breakaway force is applied to the device, such that a sum of the breakaway force and the push-out force is within the desired range of separation force.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2023Publication date: May 18, 2023Inventors: Will Armstrong, Vance Clement, Spencer Jones

Publication number: 20230040378Abstract: A breakaway connector apparatus including a housing and a breakaway component is configured for attachment directly to a needle-free fitting on an intravenous line. The breakaway connector apparatus includes only one valve. The apparatus is configured to open both the valve and a seal on the needle-free fitting when the breakaway component is attached to the needle-free fitting. When tension is applied to the connector, the breakaway component is configured to detach from the apparatus while remaining attached to the needle-free fitting, thereby closing the valve on the apparatus and also closing the seal on the needle-free fitting. In some embodiments, the breakaway connector apparatus includes one or more securing arms and one or more corresponding securing bars to prevent re-connection of the apparatus following disengagement of the breakaway component from the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2022Publication date: February 9, 2023Inventors: Spencer A. Jones, Vance Clement, Will Armstrong

Publication number: 20220296869Abstract: A breakaway medical tubing connector includes a first side member comprising a first housing having an inner wall, a first channel disposed within the first housing, and a first valve disposed within the first channel, wherein the first valve is an active valve and wherein the first valve comprises a diaphragm forming a first seal with the inner wall. The apparatus includes a second side member comprising a second housing, a second channel disposed within the second housing, a second valve disposed within the second channel, and a cannula extending from the second side member toward the first side member. The apparatus further includes a toric joint between the cannula and the first side member, wherein the toric joint forms a second seal between the first and second side members.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2022Publication date: September 22, 2022Inventors: Spencer A. Jones, Jordan Mykleby, Vance Clement

Patent number: 11291822Abstract: A breakaway medical tubing connector and method for joining two sections of medical tubing includes a pump side member and a patient side member positioned axially opposite from the pump side member. The patient side member has a first channel disposed within the pump side member and a first valve disposed within the first channel. The pump side member has a second channel disposed within the patient side member and a second valve disposed within the second channel. The first valve may be an active valve and the second valve may be a passive valve. A securing bar may be disposed on the pump side member and a securing arm may be disposed on the patient side member for providing a detachable coupling of the two members.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2020Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: Site Saver, Inc.Inventors: Spencer A. Jones, Jordan Mykleby, Vance Clement

Patent number: 10655768Abstract: A breakaway connector apparatus for joining a first tubing section to a second tubing section includes a first member and a second member positioned axially opposite the first member. The second member includes a male portion extending from the second member. A housing is disposed between the first and second members, the housing including a socket shaped to receive the male portion of the second member. An axial passage provides a flow path defined inside the housing between the first and second members. A stem is disposed in the axial passage between the first and second members. A first valve is disposed on the first or second member, and the stem engages the first valve and opens the first valve to allow flow between the first and second members through the axial passage when the male portion of the second member is fully received in the socket of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2016Date of Patent: May 19, 2020Assignee: Site Saver, Inc.Inventors: Spencer A.
