  • Publication number: 20130184366
Abstract: The present invention discloses aromatic polyester polyols suitable for blending with other polyols or other materials mutually compatible with the polyester polyols to achieve polyurethane and polyisocyanurate products. In particular the present invention discloses polyester polyols comprising the reaction of: A) an aromatic component comprising 80 mole percent or greater of terephthalic acid; B) a polyether polyol having a nominal functionality greater than 2 and less than or equal to 4, a molecular weight of 250 to 1000 and has a polyoxypropylene content of at least 70% by weight of the polyol; and C) a glycol other than B having a molecular weight from 60 to 250; wherein A, B, and C are present in the reaction on a percent weight bases of 20 to 60 weight percent A); 15 to 70 weight percent of B); and 10 to 50 weight percent of C).

  • Publication number: 20130034683
Abstract: Insulating units are disclosed which are prepared by a cavity-filling, fast-gelling rigid polyurethane foam based on a formulation comprising a polyol component which contains at least 5 weight percent of an amine-initiated polyols and 1.4 to 4 parts by weight of a catalyst package whereby the catalyst package contains at least one amine catalyst and the weight percent nitrogen present in the amine-initiated polyol to weight percent nitrogen present in the catalyst system is from 2 to 8. The formulation is injected into the cavity and the pressure in the cavity is subjected to reduced atmospheric pressure to achieve the rigid foam having a thermal conductivity of less than about 19 mW/mK at 10° C. average plate temperature.

  • Publication number: 20110196055
Abstract: A process for preparing a cavity-filling, fast-gelling closed cell rigid polyurethane foam comprises preparing a formulation including at least a polyisocyanate, a relatively high viscosity polyol system including at least about 10 percent by weight of an amine-initiated polyol, a physical blowing agent, a blowing catalyst and a curing catalyst, and, optionally, less than about 1.6 weight percent of water based on the polyol system. Other conventional components, such as a chain extender and/or crosslinker, surfactant, and the like may also be included. The formulation is injected under a reduced atmospheric pressure to achieve a closed cell, rigid polyurethane foam having a density of less than about 40 kg/m3, an average cell diameter of less than about 250 microns, and a thermal conductivity of less than about 19 mW/mK at 10° C. average plate temperature.

  • Patent number: 7943679
Abstract: The present invention is to a molded rigid polyurethane foam for application in appliance, having a reduced thermal conductivity at densities between 33 and 38 kg/m3 and a process for the production of such foams. The molded rigid polyurethane foam have a ratio of applied foam density (kg/m3) to lambda (mW/mK), measured at 10° C., 24 hours after foam production from 1.65 and to 2.15 and are obtained by the process of injecting into a closed mold cavity under reduced pressure a reaction mixture at a packing factor of 1.1 to 1.9 and the reaction mixture comprises: A) an organic polyisocyanate; B) a physical blowing agent, C) a polyol composition containing at least one polyol with a functionality of 3 or greater and a hydroxyl number between 200 and 800 and a water content of 0 to 2.5 weight percent of the total polyol composition; D) catalyst and E) auxiliary substances and/or additives.
