  • Patent number: 8797995
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus can include: (i) a layer 3 point of attachment having an input configured to receive handoff indicative information from a mobile device substantially in parallel with the handoff indicative information being received in a layer 2 handoff function; and (ii) logic configured to perform a handoff facilitating action in response to the handoff indicative information.

  • Patent number: 7418596
Abstract: Systems and methods disclosed herein provide secure, efficient, and mutually authenticated cryptographic key distribution. A client or client manufacturer may pre-generate and pre-encrypt the cryptographic keys, store the encrypted keys within the client, and deliver such keys to the serving network's access server via the client, while also relying upon, if available, the authentication performed by a trusted access server of an intermediate network which the client must traverse in order to obtain access the serving network. If not available, a client password stored within the client may be used to enable client authentication by the serving network prior to acceptance of the delivered cryptographic keys.

  • Patent number: 7409208
Abstract: A software download service on a mobile network provides users with personalized catalog presentations identifying software products available for downloading. Customer-specific preferences are established, for example, by input by the customer using a web-interface on a personal computer or on their mobile station, or by processing of user data such as demographics and usage history. The resulting user preferences are stored in a database. When each customer operates a mobile station to access the download service, the listing(s) of available software products are filtered and/or prioritized using the customer's individual preference(s). As a result, the service provides a ‘catalog’ of available software products that has been tailored to the particular user based on that user's preference(s). Consequently, customers can easily find applications that appeal to their interest, which improves both the sales take rate and the customer experience.

  • Patent number: 7239862
Abstract: A prepaid communications system includes a wireless call handling device for receiving wireless calls from wireless customers, a packet data serving node for receiving wireless packet data calls from the wireless call handling device and transmitting the calls to a communications network and an administration system in communication with the packet data serving node. Upon a wireless customer originating a wireless call, the wireless call handling device receives the wireless call and transmits the wireless call to the packet data serving node. The packet data serving node accesses the administration system with identification information input by the customer to obtain a call access authorization for the customer. The administration system transmits the call access authorization to the packet data serving node, the call access authorization including a prepaid volume record indicating an amount of prepaid units available for use by the customer and processing instructions.

  • Patent number: 7200390
Abstract: A mobile station update client facilitates downloading of updated software. This client interacts through a data communication client, using a standard interface. The data client wakes up the update client, in response to a notification from a download server. The update client interacts with the server, to identify resident software for checking against update(s) available from the server. The server does not need to be pre-provisioned with information as to the software or firmware in the mobile station, as this data can be provided by the update client. Also, there is no need for transmission of sensitive subscriber information over the air once a connection is established, because the download client provides the minimal data needed to facilitate the checking and updating of the software. An update is downloaded and stored in dedicated memory in the mobile station. The update client installs the updated software and activates that software for future use.

  • Publication number: 20050096048
Abstract: The concepts herein address a communication network for managing user identifiers of users accessing data applications on at least two different networks each accessible through a service provider, and providing a seamless sign on when accessing a data application from a mobile station. A wireless communication network links a mobile station with a data application on the wireless network, and a user accessing the data application from the mobile station is identified by a user identifier entered by the user. A communication network other than a wireless communication network links a user interface other than a mobile station with a data application on the other communication network, and the user accessing the data application from the user interface is identified by the user identifier entered by the user. A computer system is in communication with data applications of the wireless communication network and with the other communication network.
