  • Patent number: 8808535
Abstract: System and method for processing hydrocarbon. One or more embodiments of the method include combining a first hydrocarbon including a de-asphalted oil with a recycled hydrocarbon product to produce a combined hydrocarbon, cracking the combined hydrocarbon to produce a cracked hydrocarbon product, and recycling at least a portion of the cracked hydrocarbon product to provide the recycled hydrocarbon product, wherein the recycled hydrocarbon product comprises a cycle oil product, a naphtha product, or a combination thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 2010
Date of Patent: August 19, 2014
Assignee: Kellogg Brown & Root LLC
Inventors: Phillip K. Niccum, Vasant K. Patel

  • Publication number: 20110185631
Abstract: Systems and methods for pelletizing a molten heavy hydrocarbon that can be extruded from a drop former to create a plurality of droplets that are subsequently quenched in a cooling media to create asphaltenic pellets. The asphaltenic pellets can be solidified by transferring heat from the droplets to the cooling media to provide the solid asphaltenic pellets. The solid asphaltenic pellets can then be separated from the cooling media which can be recycled for use.

  • Patent number: 5648590
Abstract: Acyclic hydrocarbons having 4 to 7 carbon atoms per molecule are isomerized in the liquid phase by contact with a solid superacid catalyst comprising sulfated oxide or hydroxide of a metal selected from the group consisting of Group III and Group IV metals, to obtain high octane number blending components for motor fuel and/or valuable chemical and fuel intermediates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 17, 1994
Date of Patent: July 15, 1997
    Assignee: Sun Company, Inc. (R&M)
Inventors: Chao-Yang Hsu, Vasant K. Patel, David H. Vahlsing, James T. Wei, Harry K. Myers, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5019671
Abstract: A sulfated calcined solid catalyst which comprises (1) oxide or hydroxide of Group III or Group IV, e.g. zirconium, metal, (2) oxide or hydroxide of Group V, Group VI or Group VII, e.g. manganese or molybdenum, metal and (3) oxide or hydroxide of Group VIII, e.g. iron, or cobalt metal, is used to isomerize normal alkanes having 4 to 7 carbon atoms per molecule in the liquid phase to obtain high octane number blending components for motor fuel and/or valuable chemical and fuel intermediates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 10, 1989
