  • Patent number: 6484582
Abstract: A rolling bearing which has as rolling bearing components one bearing race with a first running surface, a second bearing race with a second running surface opposed to the first surface, and rolling elements arranged between the running surfaces. At least one sensing unit is integrated into the rolling bearing components. The sensing unit can be interrogated by radio via antennas or can be connected to an interrogator by a cable. The sensing unit uses at least one component operating on the SAW or BAW principle to sense changes in length and/or changes in temperature in the material of the rolling bearing component and sends the result of the measurement after the arrival of a radio signal via the antenna or via a cable.

  • Publication number: 20020157470
Abstract: To make available to the vehicle control systems more information on the forces and directions of the forces which act on the individual tires, in order to determine these forces, the displacements between the outer ring and inner ring in the wheel bearings are measured in a contactless fashion using ultrasound. Displacements are measured by one or more sets of an ultrasound transmitter and a receiver on the stationary ring and a reflection surface on the rotating ring for reflecting back the ultrasound energy. The measured time until the signal is received enables displacement to be determined. It is possible to use these displacements to calculate the forces acting from a knowledge of the spring characteristic of the wheel bearings.

  • Patent number: 5927867
Abstract: A fastening arrangement for fastening an antifriction bearing in a housing bore. A securing sleeve is disposed at an edge at the outside and toward one axial end of the outer ring of the bearing. The sleeve has beadlike projections that are sprung radially outwardly and that are received in a groove formed in the housing for axially affixing the bearing in the bore. The securing sleeve is axially sprung against the axial end of the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 5725285
Abstract: A wheel mount for a vehicle wheel having a wheel flange on the exterior of which is mounted a rotation bearing. The wheel flange bore is internally splined. A cardan shaft has an externally threaded shaft portion projecting into the bore of the wheel flange. A resilient sheet metal nut is internally screw threaded to be screwed onto the threaded portion of the cardan shaft. The nut has a radially outwardly extending flange which engages the wheel flange so as to axially fix the nut at the wheel flange as the nut is tightened on the cardan shaft portion. The outer circumference of the nut, axially at its threaded portion, has radially resilient tongues projecting out into the splining of the wheel flange to permit the nut to be screwed onto the cardan shaft portion and either to permit the nut to be unscrewed or in a different design to prohibit the nut from being unscrewed. Through the nut, the wheel flange and the cardan shaft are secured.

  • Patent number: 5674011
Abstract: To permit a reliable, compact, low vibration, lightweight wheel bearing unit having a small number of components and useful for the driven wheels of a motor vehicle, there is a connecting part fastened between the bearing arrangement on the wheel flange and a joint bell at the wheel hub and the connecting part extending between them providing elastic damping by the construction thereof.

  • Patent number: 5490732
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for example for use in a motor vehicle, including an antifriction bearing clamped on the hub. The hub includes a bore which defines a tubular hub part that prior to deformation extends past the axially outer end of the inner ring of the bearing. The tubular hub part is deformed radially outward around the radially inner, axially outer edge of the inner ring to clamp the inner ring and the bearing to the hub. Features of the inner ring and hub for enabling such clamping are disclosed including the hub material hardness, the hub having a tubular part of a particular wall thickness and a length protruding beyond the axial end of the bearing, the radius of the edge of the inner ring about which the bead is formed, the thickness of the bead and its angle of inclination both with reference to the end of the inner ring and to the interior bore, and the depth of the bore.

  • Patent number: 5240333
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for vehicles having a speed of rotation detector. An inner ring of the wheel bearing unit is mounted on an axial shoulder of the wheel hub. The inner ring is retained axially by a bead formed by plastic deformation of the rear end of the shoulder. Elevations protrude axially rearwardly around the circumference of the bead. An axial depression into the rear of the hub at the hub axis. The passage of the elevations are sensed by a rotation detector spaced from the rear end of the hub.
