  • Patent number: 7347049
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for generating energy, comprising a first heat exchanger in communication with a first heat source; wherein the first heat exchanger contacts a transfer fluid that comprises a working fluid and an associating composition; and a first energy conversion device comprising a moving surface, wherein the first heat exchanger is in communication with the moveable surface of the first energy conversion device; and wherein a dissociation of the transfer fluid in the first heat exchanger generates a vapor of the working fluid that contacts the moving surface of the first energy conversion device.

  • Patent number: 7155075
Abstract: Several methods for measuring and monitoring temperature have been presented for systems requiring temperature monitoring. In one implementation, the system has been applied to battery assemblies. Temperature measurements for every part of the battery assembly are disclosed. In one aspect the surface temperature of a battery assembly is measured. In another aspect, the internal temperature of the battery assembly is measured. In other aspects, the internal and external temperatures of several battery assemblies are measured. Based on the measured temperature, control signals are generated by a control system to switch down the power of the battery charging system so as to prevent excess heat generation.

  • Patent number: 7124584
Abstract: A system is disclosed for generating energy from a geothermal heat source. The system includes a fluid injection system configured for injecting fluid into a subterranean formation and a fluid extraction system configured for extracting fluid from the subterranean formation after being heated by the formation. The system further includes a heat transformer configured to receive a first fluid heated by the geothermal heat source at a first temperature and adapted to heat a second fluid to a second temperature via a series of chemical reactions. Furthermore, the system includes an energy generation unit configured to receive heated the second fluid at the second temperature from the heat transformer to increase the temperature of a third fluid which is used to generate energy.

  • Patent number: 7077566
Abstract: A method for monitoring temperature in at least one location of an electromagnetic coil assembly having at least one electrical winding. The method includes passing a light through a non-magnetic optical fiber inserted into a sheath that is wound with the electrical winding. The sheath is wound and cast with the electromagnetic coil assembly, and the optical fiber is slidably inserted therein. The optical fiber has a core containing at least a first Bragg grating etched therein. The method further includes detecting a wavelength of light reflected from the first Bragg grating and determining a temperature of the electromagnetic coil assembly at a location of the first Bragg grating utilizing the detected wavelength of the light reflected from the first Bragg grating.

  • Patent number: 6886977
Abstract: A sensor measures temperature in stationary components of electrical machines using fiber optics. An optical fiber is embedded in a non-metallic ribbon. Notches are cut in the ribbon to effect bends that accommodate a shape of a stationary component. The ribbon and optical fiber are attached to the stationary component. A series of laser pulses can be injected from at least one end of the optical fiber, and the stationary component temperature can be monitored by interrogation of reflections from the series of laser pulses.
