Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a catheter system for avoiding air embolisms in intracranial interventions and to the catheter system itself; the latter has a first and a second catheter main body, each with a longitudinal axis, a proximal end and a distal end. The catheter main bodies have several lumens and lumen openings and in each case an expandable structure for blocking the bloodstream in blood vessels.
