  • Patent number: 6153564
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition is provided comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of, as an additive, at least one compound comprising a metal core and bonded thereto one or more ligands capable of rendering the compound oil-soluble or oil-dispersible, at least one ligand having at least two hydrocarbyl groups of which one has 1 to 7 carbon atoms and the other or another has more carbon atoms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 1999
Date of Patent: November 28, 2000
    Assignee: Infineum USA L.P.
Inventors: Velautha-Cumaran Arunasalam, Ian A. W. Bell, John A. Cleverley, Ronald P. Wangner
  • Patent number: 6110878
Abstract: Oil-soluble or oil-dispersible trinuclear molybdenum-sulfur compounds are made by reacting less than three, such as 1.5 to 2.5, preferably two to 2.1, molar equivalents of a disulfide with one molar equivalent of a compound containing the [Mo.sub.3 S.sub.13 ].sup.2- ion. The trinuclear compounds include S-containing ligands that are derived from the disulfide reactant via cleavage of the disulfide bond; the ligands are bound to the core via the S atoms.
