Abstract: A method for updating firmware on a device in an information handling system in a resilient manner is described. The method includes receiving a new firmware for updating a device; storing a current firmware image or a working copy of the current firmware of the device in a volatile memory; updating the device with the new firmware after storing the current firmware in the volatile memory; setting a first boot flag to perform diagnostics at a next reset of the information handling system based on updating the device with the new firmware; and determining, by the information handling system at the next reset in response to the first boot flag, whether the device satisfies at least one criteria indicating the new firmware is operational on the device. An information handling system that includes the device and performs the method is also described.

Abstract: Disclosed subject matter implements a secure, cloud-based boot sequence for a recovery OS. In at least some embodiments, a three phase solution is employed. The first phase, which may occur during the DXE phase of a boot sequence, establishes trust by configuring at least a portion system memory as a trust zone RAM disk and attesting modules that interact with the RAM disk. The second phase downloads file from the cloud and performs a cumulative hash verification and handshaking with the EC. During the third phase, a memory identification table for the trust zone s migrated to OS runtime environment to enable secured, OS runtime access to the RAM disk contents.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing the operation of host devices is disclosed. A host device may include a computing device that operates in accordance with operation data. The operation data may include, for example, startup data such as code for a management entity (e.g., a basic input output system), settings (e.g., hardware and/or software) for the startup management entity, setting for general operation after booting to an operating system, copies of code (e.g., computer instructions executable with a processor) for applications to be executed by the host device, etc. If the operation data is modified, operation of the host device may be similarly modified.

The BIOS may be configured to, while the information handling system is in a pre-boot environment and prior to initialization of an operating system of the information handling system: establish a communication session with a remote information handling system; and in response to authentication of the communication session, transmit data to the remote information handling system that is operable to expose a partition of the storage resource to the remote information handling system.
