    Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a supplemental channel in an IS-2000 CDMA network includes a system that determines when to initiate a supplemental channel transmission, when to terminate a supplemental channel transmission, the period or duration of a supplemental channel, and, finally, the data rate of the supplemental channel. In short, an implementation for a supplemental channel is provided that considers the power capacity of the BTS, the desire to minimize interference, the desire to maximize revenue and the number of users, and the desire to minimize the probability of blocking (a user being denied access).
