  • Publication number: 20060240074
Abstract: This invention relates to novel triple salts of (?)-hydroxycitric acid having the general formula 1 wherein X, Y are selected from zinc or group IIA metal and Z is selected from group IA metal of the Periodic Table. Preferred salts are triple metal salts of calcium, magnesium or zinc and potassium. This invention also includes a process for preparing the triple salts by adding stiochiometric amounts of aqueous solutions of the compounds of the desired metal to an aqueous solution of (?)-HCA. Preferably an extract from garcinia fruit ring is used as a starting material. Compounds of this invention are substantially tastless, odourless and highly water soluble and find use in beverages and in neutraceuticals.

  • Publication number: 20060106101
Abstract: This invention relates to new double salts of (?)-hydroxycitric acid with group II metals. Preferred double salts are calcium and magnesium double salts of hydroxycitric acid of the formula II. This invention also includes a process for the preparation of these double salts by the addition of one metal compound from group II to (?)-hydroxycitric acid solution followed by the addition of other metal compound solution from group II. These double salts are tasteless and are soluble in water. They are useful as dietary supplements and in beverages.

  • Patent number: 6900356
Abstract: This invention relates to novel polyhydroxy curcumins of the formula (I), wherein R and R1 may be same or different and are selected from H, OH and OCH3. This invention also includes a process for synthesising the above polyhydroxy curcumins by reacting substituted aromatic alhehydes with a diketone in the presence of boron oxide, alkyl borate and a primary or secondary amine catalyst. If desired, the resulting compounds can be deprotected by known means. These compounds are used as anti-oxidants.

  • Publication number: 20050085452
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for producing pharmacologically active synthetic stereoisomeric mixture of guggulsterones (4) in the three steps. The mixture of gugguisterones consists of Z-guggulsterone [4,17(20)-trans-pregnadiene-3,16-dione] and E-guggulsterone [4,17(20)-cis-pregnadiene-3,16-dione] and could be in any relative ratio. This improved process comprises (a) epoxidation of 16-dehydropregnanolone acetate (1) with hydrogen peroxide (b) reduction of the so obtained epoxide (2) with hydrazine hydrate and (c) oxidation of the diol (3).
