  • Patent number: 10352278
Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) EGR cooler for an engine system. In one example, the EGR cooler includes a first section with a first group of tubes adapted to flow exhaust gases, and also includes a first group of passages formed by exterior surfaces of the first group of tubes and adapted to flow coolant from a coolant source. The EGR cooler also includes a second section including a second group of tubes adapted to flow coolant from the coolant source, and a second group of passages formed by exterior surfaces of the second group of tubes and adapted to flow the exhaust gas from the first group of tubes.

  • Patent number: 9964056
Abstract: A method includes controlling an engine speed based on: intake manifold air temperature and/or intake manifold pressure one, or more, of the following data parameters: an engine load as a function of a fuel level, a fuel injecting timing, an intake oxygen concentration, a constituent concentration from the exhaust gas flow, an engine power, and an engine torque. The method also recirculates a portion of the exhaust gas flow to the combustion cylinders of the engine via a recirculation channel, as a function of intake manifold temperature and/or intake manifold pressure at which the engine is operated. An engine system, other methods, and a non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with a program, to enable a processor-based control unit to control aspects of the engine are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9903284
Abstract: Dual-fuel engine system includes cylinders in which the cylinders have an intake valve and an exhaust valve that control a flow of fluid into and out of a combustion chamber of the corresponding cylinder. The intake valve is configured to have an intake valve closure (IVC) timing. The dual-fuel engine system is configured to operate in a single-fuel mode and a dual-fuel mode. The combustion chamber and a piston are designed to provide a compression ratio. The dual-fuel engine system also includes one or more processors that are operably coupled to and configured to control operation of the first fuel injector. The compression ratio and the IVC timing are selected to achieve a target pre-combustion temperature. The target pre-combustion temperature permits the dual-fuel engine system to operate at a high substitution rate in the dual-fuel mode and at a sufficient fuel efficiency in the single-fuel mode.

  • Patent number: 9868089
Abstract: A controller for controlling emission of an internal combustion engine, that is configured to: determine an aging parameter(s) of the engine over a period of time; control an operating parameter(s) of the engine, based on the aging parameter(s); and then maintain emissions from the engine at a substantially constant value, based on the controlling. Also method of controlling emissions of an engine comprises: over a time period, determining a change in operating hours of the engine; emissions of the engine; and/or quantity of a fuel being dispensed by a fuel nozzle; controlling an operating parameter(s) of the engine during the time period, based on the determining, thereby maintaining the emissions of the engine substantially at a constant level during the same time period. A system and non-transitory computer readable media for controlling emissions of an engine are also disclosed.
