  • Patent number: 5092173
Abstract: An accelerometer apparatus capable of sensing accelerations ranging from steady state to at least 500 Hertz is described. The apparatus uses a piezo resistive pickoff for low frequency sensing and applies a potential to the accelerometer's pendulum to excite a secondary pickoff for frequencies above 100 Hertz.

  • Patent number: 5058430
Abstract: An apparatus for effectively mounting a silicon sensor capsule within a stainless steel, or other similar material, housing of an accelerometer comprises an alignment pin and two flex pins. The alignment pin provides torsional stiffness, while the flex pins provide stiffness in a vertical plane. The apparatus is capable of being used within different housings having different temperature coefficients of expansion. The mounting pins maintain accurate alignment of the sensor capsule without inducing stress into the capsule. Such stress could easily cause bias or misalignment errors which are undesirable in navigation of aircraft or missiles, two common uses of accelerometers.

  • Patent number: 4498342
Abstract: An accelerometer comprising a member of silicon subjected to physical changes in response to the linear accelerations, elements integrated into the surface of the member for generating, amplifying and supplying an output determined by those changes, and means responsive to said output for overcoming said physical changes.

  • Patent number: 4488445
Abstract: An accelerometer comprising a sheet of silicon configured as an inertia plate separate from a support plate except at a pair of flexure sites spaced along an axis, each flexure site including a pair of flexures mutually offset so that upon acceleration in a direction perpendicular to the inertia plate the flexures partake of compound bending, and stress responsive resistors at said flexures positioned so that upon compound bending the resistors change resistance in the opposite sense.

  • Patent number: 4145929
Abstract: Linear acceleration responsive apparatus is disclosed wherein a sensing mass or bobbin is suspended so that a pair of series connected, oppositely wound circumferential coils thereon are positioned in oppositely directed radial magnetic fields produced by permanent magnet means. The bobbin is supported by hinge assemblies which also serve as flex leads and variable capacitance position pickoff means. A rebalance current is supplied to the coils by a servo amplifier in response to the pickoff signal. The magnetic flux components resulting from the rebalance current are equal and oppositely directed, thereby precluding any effect on the radial magnetic fields.

  • Patent number: 4144765
Abstract: Linear acceleration responsive apparatus is disclosed wherein a sensing mass is suspended within a housing by torsion hinge means located along a pair of parallel axes in each of two planes perpendicular to an input axis. Separate torsion hinge means in each plane are attached to the mass and the housing by ring assemblies, and are joined by intermediate arms which may serve as flex leads for carrying electric current to a force rebalance winding on the mass.

  • Patent number: 4128010
Abstract: A temperature compensated accelerometer of the type having a permanent magnet, moving coil rebalance system is disclosed. A cylindrical permanent magnet and surrounding sleeve produce radial magnetic fields in annular regions in which are located rebalance coils on a suspended bobbin. A noninductive temperature sensing winding on the magnet is connected in a bridge input circuit to an amplifier which produces a current in an auxillary winding for augmenting the fields produced by the permanent magnet so as to maintain constant magnetic field strength in the annular regions.
