  • Patent number: 5380180
Abstract: A system and process for fabricating pressboard from shredded paper coated with a thermoplastic material and a pair of facing webs includes placing the shredded poly-coated paper between the two traveling webs to form a composite, the composite then being passed in a manner to heat the thermoplastic material above its softening point to differentially repeatedly shift the traveling webs linearly relative to each other and to the shredded paper for enhanced bonding of the shreds to themselves and to the facing webs by passing them around a series of heated rollers defining a serpentine path, and then pressing the composite together while curing to bond the components, and cooling the product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 1991
Date of Patent: January 10, 1995
    Assignee: Fortifiber Corporation
    Inventor: Vernon L. Lamb, Sr.
  • Patent number: 5277572
Abstract: A radial die densifier is disclosed having a means for regulating the rate of material flow. Material passes through a feed cylinder in which is disposed a distributor cone. The feed cylinder may be moved toward and away from the cone so as to vary the width of a flow passage way formed between the end of the feed cylinder and the distributor cone. Also disclosed is a method for producing fuel pellets, logs, or the like, by densifying paper coated with a moisture resistant material in which the coating acts as a binder and a combustibility enhancing agent.

  • Patent number: 4820374
Abstract: The specification discloses an improved platen for a paper roll header. The platen has a two-piece face including an inner circular portion and an outer portion eccentrically surrounding the inner portion. The two face portions are independently heatable enabling the outer portion alone to be heated in certain applications to adhere a head to the periphery of a particular size roll.

  • Patent number: 4810445
Abstract: A method for continuously forming a pressboard product from shredded scrap paper having a thermoplastic coated thereon. The shredded paper is deposited between two continuous facing sheets. The sandwiched construction is heated using radiant or convection heat and then compressed to fuse the shredded paper together.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 1986
Date of Patent: March 7, 1989
    Assignee: Fortifiber Corporation
Inventors: Vernon L. Lamb, Sr., Roger D. Boden, Sr.
  • Patent number: 4716709
Abstract: The specification discloses an apparatus and method for wrapping paper rolls with a paper coated with a thermoplastic material. The leading edge of the wrapper is adhered to the roll by softening the thermoplastic. After the wrapper is wrapped about the roll, the trailing edge of the wrapper is adhered to the wrapped roll by softening the thermoplastic. The wrapping apparatus includes a heatable transport bar for heating the desired portions of the wrapper and contacting the heated portions to the roll.
