Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for method and apparatus for distributing signals. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communications interface (CI) (101 having a controller that manages a transceiver (102) coupled to a residential gateway (RG) (118) and one or more set top boxes (STBs) (116). The controller can be programmed to receive (202) a very high bit rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) signal, transmit (204, 208) the VDSL signal to the RG over a select one of a plurality of coaxial interfaces, and receive (210) an IP signal from the RG for distribution to the one or more STBs. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A communications gateway can be used to provide communications services from a communications service provide to electronic devices within a structure. Signals can be transmitted from the communications gateways to the electronic devices over a plurality of different types of wireline media. The communications gateway can allow communication services using a wireline medium (e.g., a set of twisted pair wires) to be transmitted within the structure by taking advantage of existing wireline media (e.g., CAT3 cable, coaxial cable, power lines, etc.).

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed to manage program streams in broadcast switched digital video (SDV) systems. An example method includes receiving a plurality of motion picture experts group (MPEG) multiple program transport streams (MPTSs) that contain a plurality of program streams; selecting a subset of the plurality of program streams to provide a line-up of program streams; and broadcasting the selected subset of program streams in the SDV system.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed to broadcast advanced television system committee (ATSC) video in switched digital video (SDV) systems. An example SDV broadcast method includes de-multiplexing at least one program stream from at least one of a plurality of multiple program transport streams (MPTSs), and connecting at least one program stream to a SDV broadcast engine.

Abstract: A combination VDSL Splitter/Balun, Low pass filter converts a copper pair containing VDSL signals and PSTN service to be compatible with home coaxial and twisted pair wiring. A device of the invention performs the following functions: accepts VDSL and PSTN service in on a single twisted pair; provides front end voltage spike protection and test resistance circuit; and splits off the PSTN service to a connector compatible with a twisted copper pair; prevents signals above the voice spectrum from entering back through the twisted copper pair by filtering it to an RF level below the VDSL signal. The VDSL signal continues through the device and through a voltage blocker preventing the line and ring voltage from continuing. The impedance of the twisted pair is matched, through a balun, to a coaxial output on the device.
