  • Patent number: 9581724
Abstract: A coiled tubing assembly includes coiled tubing having a side wall that defines an opening and an insert covering the opening and affixed to the coiled tubing. The coiled tubing has a longitudinal axis. The insert defines a capillary window therethrough. The opening and the insert include ends that are non-perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A method of making a coiled tubing assembly includes providing coiled tubing defining a side wall opening and pulling a capillary tube into the interior of the coiled tubing through the side wall opening. The method further includes attaching the capillary tube to a capillary window of an insert for covering the side wall opening and affixing the insert to the coiled tubing.

  • Publication number: 20150000936
Abstract: A system and method facilitates actuation of an energized device, such as a packer. The technique provides an actuating force with a thermally expandable material located in a container. The thermally expandable material is operatively coupled with an element, such as a packer sealing element, via an actuator member. When the container and the thermally expandable material are positioned in a high heat environment, the thermally expandable material expands and actuates the element via the actuator member. In packer applications, the thermally expandable material may be used to continuously energize the packer sealing element and/or other components while the thermally expandable material is positioned in the high heat environment.

  • Publication number: 20120186814
Abstract: A technique facilitates use of a hydraulically actuated packer in a high temperature, downhole environment. The packer is actuated by directing pressurized fluid to the packer and routing the fluid to an actuation region of the packer to provide the force for setting the packer. A thermal isolation member is positioned in the packer along the pressurized fluid flow path and activates upon exposure to heat. Once the thermal isolation member is fully activated, flow is blocked along the pressurized fluid flow path which prevents return flow of pressurized fluid.

  • Patent number: 7832474
Abstract: An embodiment of a system for disconnecting a first element from a second element at a desired position in a wellbore includes a disconnect tool containing an expandable material, the disconnect tool being actuatable from a locked position, wherein the first and the second elements are interconnected, to an unlocked position, wherein the first and the second element are disconnected, upon a determined expansion of the expandable material in response to a temperature at the desired position.

  • Publication number: 20090206552
Abstract: A hermetic seal includes a face seal ring having a first end sealing face and a second end sealing face, a first sealing profile in contact with the first end sealing face, and a second sealing profile in contact with the second end sealing face. The face seal ring comprises a shape memory material. A hermetically-sealed, threaded joint includes a pin sub defining a first sealing profile, a box sub defining a second sealing profile, and a face seal ring comprising a shape memory material. The pin sub is threadedly engaged with the box sub. The face seal ring has a first end sealing face in contact with the first sealing profile and a second end sealing face in contact with the second sealing profile. The face seal ring is disposed about the pin sub.
