  • Publication number: 20110258020
Abstract: Technology development initiatives are objectively evaluated using a framework that includes a set of evaluation parameters and scoring rules. Predefined evaluation parameter values are associated with the evaluation parameters. The evaluation parameters are also associated with scoring rules that can be used to generate score component associated with the evaluation parameters. The evaluation parameters are also grouped and the score components associated with the evaluation parameters are modified based on a scoring rule for the evaluation parameter group. The modified score components are used to generate final scores for the technology development initiatives, and the final scores are used to evaluate the technology development initiatives relative to other initiatives or relative to thresholds.

  • Patent number: 8030548
Abstract: A cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) system in different Brassica species having a distinct mitochondrial DNA specific RFLP signature. A method for obtaining male sterile lines and restoration of fertility in B. juncea for hybrid seed production using the CMS. This CMS in B. juncea can be restored by crossing male sterile plants with any B. juncea genotype other than the maintainer genotype. The same B. juncea genotype acts as maintainer of male sterility after a specified number of backcrosses. The CMS also relates to histological characterization of another and microspore development in B. juncea.

  • Patent number: 7741541
Abstract: A method for obtaining improved fertility restorer lines for male sterile crop plants and a DNA construct for use in said method are disclosed. The invention relates to the simultaneous use of two different gene sequences encoding the same protein product, one being the naturally occurring wild type sequence and the other sequence being generated by modification of the wild type sequence for expression in crop plants by using codon degeneracy to avoid homology between the two sequences at the DNA and mRNA levels, each of the said sequences being placed under independent transcriptional control of different overlapping plant tissue-specific regulatory elements in the same DNA construct.

  • Publication number: 20030110538
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) Brassica napus plant containing improved ‘oxy’ cytoplasm i.e. chloroplast from Brassica oleracea and recombinant mitochondria from Brassica oxyrrhina, a process for developing the said ‘oxy’ CMS Brassica napus plants by using hexaploid ‘oxy’ CMS Brassica plants, obtained through somatic hybridization, as the bridging material and backcrossing these for at least five generations to transfer the novel ‘oxy’ CMS character to Brassica napus plants and a method for producing the improved hexaploid male sterile ‘oxy’ CMS Brassica plants mediated through protoplast fusion and regeneration of the somatic hybrids and to the transfer of this improved ‘oxy’ cytoplasm to tetraploid Brassica napus (AACC) plants through conventional backcross breeding for five generations.
