  • Patent number: 8601589
Abstract: A simplified messaging system is provided. In various embodiments, the simplified messaging system receives a selection of an image representing an identification for a user that the user previously provided, receives a selection of multiple images representing a password for the user that the user previously selected, and logs the user into an electronic messaging system based on the selected images. In various embodiments, the simplified messaging system comprises a mail transport server that receives and forwards electronic messages, a mail registration server comprising an images component that stores images associated with user identifications and user passwords, and a mail client that receives a selection of an image identifying a user and multiple images associated with a password of the user, and logs the user into an electronic messaging system when the images are selected.

  • Patent number: 8023972
Abstract: Users can send short message service (SMS) communication with the purpose of the communication being implied therein. An SMS broker described herein can derive the implied purpose by parsing the communication at least in part according to defined set of rules of syntax and in light of a current context within which the communication was received. In one aspect, the communication is brokered via the SMS broker and it may be intended as a message to be sent to another user identified by a moniker, such as their e-mail alias, which has the advantage of avoiding the need to store phone numbers on memory-constrained devices. In another aspect, the communication is a request for user data of other users also identified in the request by a simple moniker such as their e-mail alias. Additionally, a user can also send a communication intended to update their own user information such as their current location, availability and so on.

  • Patent number: 7899475
Abstract: A facility for sending enhanced SMS messages is provided. The facility at a sending SMS subscriber unit encodes the original text of an SMS message to produce an encoded SMS message, and transmits the encoded SMS message for receipt by the intended recipient of the SMS message. The facility at a receiving SMS subscriber unit receives the transmitted encoded SMS message and decodes the encoded SMS message to produce the original text of the SMS message. In some instances, the facility at the receiving SMS subscriber unit may not decode the received encoded SMS message and, thus, provide the received SMS message in its received form. In some instances, the facility at the sending SMS subscriber unit may send the original text of the SMS message and have the receiving SMS subscriber unit decode (translate) the original text into a different form.

  • Publication number: 20080189357
Abstract: A community journaling system is described. • Publication number: 20080101415
Abstract: A method and system for sending private data to a subscriber via a broadcast analog transmission is provided. A service provider assigns to each subscriber a unique key that specifies a sub-channel (i.e., frequency) that is within a predetermined channel (i.e., broadcast band). Each subscriber is provided with a receiver unit that is configured to demodulate analog signals at the sub-channel indicated by the key that is assigned to the particular subscriber. A service provider system broadcasts over an analog network the private data intended for receipt by a specific subscriber utilizing the key that is assigned to the subscriber. Accordingly, although the service provider system broadcasts the private data, only the receiver unit that is configured to demodulate the analog signals at the sub-channel indicated by the key that is assigned to the specific subscriber will receive the private data.
