  • Patent number: 6454098
Abstract: An apparatus and method for conditioning and/or classifying seed is disclosed. The apparatus includes a seed conditioning/classification unit having an acceleration conduit and a convexly curved Coanda surface provided adjacent to the conduit at its outlet, curving upwardly therefrom. As the crude particulate feed stream is discharged from the outlet, it is conditioned by the Coanda effect into a first outlet stream of entraining gas and lightweight extraneous materials, which is channeled approximately along or parallel to the Coanda surface, and a second stream of relatively heavier materials such as seeds, which is expelled approximately parallel to the central axis of the conduit at the outlet. Seeds which are expelled from the conduit are also classified by momentum discrimination.

  • Patent number: 5542612
Abstract: An apparatus for dehulling grass seed utilizing a vibrated housing having an elongated chamber. The interior of the chamber is accessible through openings or ports that provide a plurality of entries and exits for the processing of grass seed. Grass seed is dehulled by a housing mounted pneumatic accelerator that removes the hulls from the seeds. Hulls and seeds are then directed into the interior of the chamber wherein separation of seeds from hulls and hulls containing seeds occurs. Seeds are discharged from the chamber and the hulls containing seeds are returned to the pneumatic accelerator for repeating the dehulling process.

  • Patent number: 5152234
Abstract: A seed drill is provided including opposite side ground engaging support wheels journaled from opposite ends of a transverse beam of the seed drill. The longitudinal center of the beam includes a horizontal, forwardly directed towing tongue and the opposite ends of the beams include forwardly and upwardly inclined support arms from whose opposite ends the remote ends of a pair of axially aligned and spaced apart drums are journaled, the adjacent ends of the drums being journaled from the upper portion of upstanding support structure carried by the tongue a spaced distance forward of the beam. The ground engagable wheels are drivingly connected to the drums and the latter include axially spaced circumferentially extending rows of openings through which seeds may be dispensed and longitudinally spaced portions of the beam have drag-type link chain sections anchored relative thereto in registry with the axially spaced circumferential rows of openings formed in the drums.

  • Patent number: 4933072
Abstract: An elongated, horizontal and at least partially closed air jet dispersion and air jet entrained material deceleration zone is provided and one end of the zone includes at least skewed velocity distribution nozzle of the circular Coanda surface-type opening inwardly along the zone toward the other end thereof. The zone includes discharge structure defining a plurality of downwardly opening gravity-type outlets spaced longitudinally along the zone and duct structure for flowing air and airflow entrained solids therethrough at high velocity is provided. The duct structure includes an outlet end opening into the nozzle and an inlet end open to the ambient atmosphere and positioned to receive gravity discharged solid materials from the outlet spaced one outlet from the aforementioned one end of the zone.

  • Patent number: 4533469
Abstract: An elongated, inclined sieve frame is provided and the frame includes a plurality of elongated transversely extending and transversely corrugated sheet metal sections arranged in laterally spaced parallel relation in an inclined plane extending lengthwise of the sieve frame. Each sheet metal section is substantially transversely straight throughout its transverse extent and corresponding portions of the corrugations of adjacent sections are disposed in parallel planes oppositely inclined relative to the inclination of the first-mentioned plane. The sieve frame is suspended at its opposite ends through the utilization of elastic suspension members and stricture is provided and operatively connected to the longitudinal mid-portion of the frame to impart omnidirectional vibration thereto in a vertical plane normal to the first-mentioned plane and the aforementioned parallel planes.

  • Patent number: 4505196
Abstract: A batch seed dehuller for seed testing purposes is provided and includes an upright cylindrical chamber merging downwardly into the upper major diameter end of an inverted frusto-conical chamber which in turn merges downwardly into a downwardly opening generally cylindrical passage of smaller diameter than the cylindrical chamber. An annular top wall closes the outer peripheral portion of the upper end of the cylindrical chamber and includes an inner periphery downwardly from which a tubular vortex finder extends to a level spaced above the frusto-conical chamber. The cylindrical passage includes a small diameter generally radially inwardly opening compressed air inlet intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof and a lateral airflow outlet of greater cross-sectional area than the inlet opening generally radially outwardly of the cylindrical passage substantially diametrically opposite the inlet.

  • Patent number: 4385871
Abstract: An improved pump for lifting water from an underground source utilizes a wind motor for driving an oil-less air compressor eliminating oil contamination of ground water which is forced to the surface. The wind motor is movable to face the wind by means of a novel swivel assembly which also eliminates the formation and freezing of condensate within the airline from the compressor. The propeller blades of the wind motor and the tail section are formed from a pair of opposed convex air foil shaped surfaces which provide the propeller blades and the tail section with fast sensitivity to slight changes in wind direction and speed. A novel well tower for supporting the wind motor and compressor and for lifting the water from the underground source is an optional modification which requires no welding and eliminates the problem of condensate freezing in the airline going to the well.

  • Patent number: 4373322
Abstract: An elongated hollow housing is provided including front and rear sides and opposite ends. The housing defines an air passage extending therethrough including an inlet end opening through and extending longitudinally of the front side of the housing. The housing also defines an outlet for the passage opening outwardly of the housing remote from the inlet. Seed separating structure is provided within the air passage intermediate the inlet and outlet and is operative to separate seeds from the air flow moving through the passage. The inlet is defined between opposing generally parallel longitudinal marginal portions of the housing and one marginal portion is disposed forward and above the other marginal portion, whereby the inlet opens outwardly of the housing in a foward and downward direction. An elongated seed stripping rotary brush is journaled in the housing for rotation about an axis extending longitudinally thereof with between 30.degree. and 90.degree.
