  • Patent number: 9311401
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for associating scores with search results obtained from a search engine so that the scores can be displayed with the search results. A search of electronic documents, such as webpages, is requested and a set of search results obtained. Each search result in the set references an electronic document. Using the search results, a database containing scores determined for electronic documents is searched to determine whether scores have been determined for the electronic documents referenced by the search results. The scores stored in the database are based on people's ratings of the electronic document corresponding to the score. If a score has been determined for an electronic document referenced by one of the search results, that score is associated with the search result and the search results are then displayed with any scores associated with the search results.

  • Publication number: 20120330813
Abstract: A process to create a fungible global standard for diamonds and gemstones. The process involves grouping diamonds in an investment standard according to their gemological, proportional, optical and light behavior characteristics. Diamonds that conform to the investment grade standard are interchangeable within a specific size range according to an equivalent monetary bundling process. Diamonds subjected to the standard conform to a holistic set of gemological, proportional, optical and light characteristic requirements that enables diamonds to be classified into a extraordinarily homogeneous, visually indistinguishable and highly fungible group which can be used to create baskets of diamonds to form an index/benchmark for diamond pricing, financial instruments, and a standard that can be used for certifying diamonds as investment grade to insure quality.

  • Publication number: 20100257184
Abstract: A method, apparatus and data structure is provided to determine a score for an electronic document, such as a webpage, image, audio recording, video recording or other electronic content, to aid in the ranking and retrieval of the electronic document. The score for an electronic document is based on weighted subjective user ratings of the electronic document by members of a member set. Weight factors are assigned to the members of the member set who then rate the electronic document. The score is determined for the electronic document based on the ratings of the electronic document by the members in the member set where each member's rating is weighted by a weight factor specific for the member who has provided the rating. The weight factor for a member is based on ratings assigned to that member by other members in the member set.

  • Patent number: 5847508
Abstract: An integrated starting and running amalgam assembly for an electrodeless SEF fluorescent lamp includes a wire mesh amalgam support constructed to jointly optimize positions of a starting amalgam and a running amalgam in the lamp, thereby optimizing mercury vapor pressure in the lamp during both starting and steady-state operation in order to rapidly achieve and maintain high light output. The wire mesh amalgam support is constructed to support the starting amalgam toward one end thereof and the running amalgam toward the other end thereof, and the wire mesh is rolled for friction-fitting within the exhaust tube of the lamp. The positions of the starting and running amalgams on the wire mesh are jointly optimized such that high light output is achieved quickly and maintained, while avoiding any significant reduction in light output between starting and running operation.

  • Patent number: 5796324
Abstract: A coil is wound on a bobbin having posts extending from the bobbin body, the end of the coil wire being wrapped on the posts to form wire terminations. The coil is mounted on a circuit board with the coil either above the board or suspended alongside the board edge. The periphery of each post is positioned against a solder pad of the circuit board and the wire termination is soldered to the pad. Each post has a flexible neck portion to relieve stress due to coil thermal expansion. A recess in the side of the post facing the solder pad enhances solder interaction with the wire termination.

  • Patent number: 5709576
Abstract: An elastomeric connector couples the terminal pads of an LCD with corresponding terminal pads of a printed wiring board (PWB). Conductive elements in the connector are subject to skewing at such an angle that the LCD must be adjusted relative to the PWB to attain pad alignment. Sense pads on the terminal strips are coupled to contact pads and are arranged so that a continuity test on substantially opposed contact pads will verify pad alignment. In one embodiment, one sense pad is narrower than the terminal pads so that even marginal continuity will assure proper alignment of the terminal pads. In another embodiment, a pair of sense pads on either one of the LCD and the PWB is bracketed by a pair of spaced pads on the other such that continuity is evidence of non-alignment.
