  • Patent number: 4888654
Abstract: A plurality of audio messages are recorded on a multitrack tape. A digital location code is recorded on the first track followed by recording of a first audio message. The remaining tracks are recorded with digital location codes simultaneously with the recording of the first message. When a second message is to be recorded while the first message is still being recorded on the first track. Recording of the digital codes on the second track is stopped and the second audio message is recorded on the second track. When all the audio messages are recorded the tape motion is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4663678
Abstract: A recording system is provided in which digital time code information is recorded interspersed on the same data track as analog audio message signals. The time codes have a unique format which enables their bit rate to be extracted while reading the code, thus enabling use of the system with tape transports having unregulated fast wind speeds. The system is placed in a fast wind mode of operation and time codes are read and compared to a preselected time code in order to locate a desired audio message for playback. The configuration of the system ensures that the playback of each message will commence only at the beginning of a message. In addition, the invention eliminates the need for a separate data track for time codes, thus increasing the signal to noise ratio of the system.

  • Patent number: 4654727
Abstract: A tape cassette handling and sequencing system includes a large storage library having a plurality of storage bins and a cassette loading section for receiving cassettes to be stored in the storage bins. Tape transports are provided for playing cassettes stored in the library. A manipulator assembly moves cassettes between the loading section, storage bins and tape transports. The design facilitates the automatic sequencing of a large number of cassettes thus freeing an operator for other tasks.

  • Patent number: 4224644
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a tape player/recorder for retrieving and playing prerecorded selections recorded thereon at spaced locations. According to the method and apparatus, the tape is played, a number indicative of tape position is generated, the tape position numbers indicative of the start and stop points for each selection recorded on the tape are stored in a memory, and the stored start and stop numbers for each selection are subsequently recorded on the tape whereby the tape may be removed from the player/recorder and subsequently reinserted into the same or another player/recorder. When a tape is inserted into a player/recorder, the start and stop numbers are read from the tape and stored in the memory whereupon the stored numbers may be utilized for locating selections on the tape to be played.
