    Abstract: A connection system which has particular advantages in medical devices such as electrophysiology catheters, and which minimizes the potential for unwanted electrical connections. A cable of the invention has a plurality of leads, with each lead terminated by a pin connector having a retractable insulative sheath so that the chance of unwanted electrical connections is minimized when the pin connector is not connected. The metal pin of the pin connector also has a nonconducting tip member to minimize the chance of short circuits.
