  • Patent number: 4388919
Abstract: Described below are an apparatus and process for starting up externally-applied, cardiac-assist processes of the type wherein the assist is synchronized with the heartbeat. The improved process comprises the controlled stepwise reduction in the time portion of the pressure cycle wherein pressure rises on a portion of the patient's body and also comprises the controlled stepwise increase in the time at which the higher pressure portion of the cycle is active on the patient's body.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 17, 1980
Date of Patent: June 21, 1983
    Assignee: Intermedics Cardiassist Corporation
Inventors: Joel M. Benjamin, Jr., Victor Meyer, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4272650
Abstract: An electrical control system containing a power supply network including a primary high voltage power source and a secondary low voltage power source, the primary power source being held inactive except for periodic intervals of time, and also being removable for replacement or recharging; the secondary power source being charged during operation of the primary power source and being operative while the primary power source is inoperative.

  • Patent number: 4263556
Abstract: A monostable system utilizable in a portable radio telephone network, comprising a phase detector coupled to a counter; the phase detector receiving incoming signals and acting to control the functioning of the counter in accordance with the polarity of the phase detector.

  • Patent number: 4211938
Abstract: A tone detector comprising a non-linear or saturated system that is adapted to receive an input frequency or group of frequencies and to provide an output in the form of turn-on and turn-off signals which are independent of the amplitude of the input, the turn-on and turn-off signals being determined by the presence or absence of a particular frequency or group of frequencies; the system including a transistor connected to a biasing network that is DC referenced to a supply voltage potential of the collector of the transistor and AC referenced to the emitter of the transistor, and a filter connected to the transistor, the filter being substitutable by an input coupling capacitor to determine the presence or absence of the particular frequency or frequencies.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 16, 1978
Date of Patent: July 8, 1980
    Assignee: International Mobile Machines Incorporated
Inventors: Duane R. Bolgiano, Joel M. Benjamin, Jr., Victor Meyer, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4130731
Abstract: A portable telephone system which utilizes both a VOX and a duplexer network wherein the necessity for the transmission of a continuous signal and continuous receiver scanning is eliminated, thereby conserving power, and wherein the ringing signal is generated locally by the individual subscriber units to prevent contact with the base station until full two-way communication is established, thereby preventing possible interference with other parties already on the line.
    Type: Grant
