Abstract: A method for providing lane change assistance information to the driver of a subject vehicle moving on a lane of a roadway in a driving direction, includes the following steps: detecting another vehicle which is approaching the subject vehicle; checking whether changing to another lane of the same roadway is possible and permissible for the subject vehicle; and informing the driver of the subject vehicle that the other vehicle is approaching to trigger a manual lane change, or initiating an automatic lane change of the subject vehicle, when the lane change to the other lane is possible and permissible.
