Patent number: 11929971Abstract: Systems and methods are directed to email threading based on machine learning determined categories and features. A network system accesses a plurality of emails addressed to a user. The network system then classifies, using a machine learning model, each email into at least one of a plurality of categories. For a category of the plurality of categories, one or more feature values are extracted from each email in the category. Based on the category and the extracted feature values, the network system groups messages having a same feature value in the same category together into a single email thread. Information related to the single email thread is then presented at a client device of the user.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2022Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Charles Yin-Che Lee, Victor Poznanski

Patent number: 11003208Abstract: An electronic device such as a laptop computer or other device may have a housing. A display may be coupled to the housing. The display may have a pixel array configured to display an image. Backlight illumination for the pixel array may be provide by a backlight unit. The backlight unit may have a light guide layer. A light source may provide light to an edge of the light guide layer. The light guide layer may scatter the light outwardly to serve as the backlight illumination for the pixel array. The backlight unit may have optical films interposed between the light guide layer and the pixel array. The optical films may include flexible polymer layers such as diffuser layers and prism films. The optical films may each have a bent alignment portion that bends back on itself while wrapping around an edge of the light guide layer.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2019Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Keith J. Hendren, Adam T. Garelli, Bryan W. Posner, Dinesh C. Mathew, Mengyang Liang, Eric Benson, Victor Yin, Jun Qi

Patent number: 8748909Abstract: A display system provides a first semiconductor light source that is electrically connected in a first plane. A second semiconductor light source is electrically connected in a second plane separate from the first plane. A third semiconductor light source is electrically connected in the first plane at least a distance away from the first semiconductor light source equal to the width of the second semiconductor light source. The first plane and the second plane are merged into a combined plane by positioning the electrically connected second semiconductor light source between the electrically connected first semiconductor light source and the electrically connected third semiconductor light source.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2006Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Victor Yin, John Zhong

Patent number: 8169388Abstract: A display system provides a display assembly having a display screen. LEDs are presorted into a plurality of groups, each group of LEDs having substantially the same color that is different than the color of another group. LEDs are selected from one of the groups. The selected LEDs are mounted in the display assembly to illuminate the display screen. A non-electronic color adjuster is mounted in the light path from the selected LEDs to shift the light color to a predetermined color.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2007Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Walter J. Galbraith, Jr., Wei Chen, John Zhong, Victor Yin
