  • Publication number: 20220396503
Abstract: A platform for sequestering carbon dioxide using a body of water is described. The platform has a vessel for holding solid metal hydroxide and for exposing the solid metal hydroxide to a flow of water to create a solution of a metal hydroxide having a pH level. The solution containing metal hydroxide is released into the body of water, causing a reaction with the carbon dioxide present in the body of water, thereby producing metal carbonate/bicarbonate, thus sequestering the carbon dioxide. A choice of the metal in the metal hydroxide, a rate of the releasing the solution containing the metal hydroxide into the body of water, and a flow rate of the flow of water so that to substantially maintain the solution containing the metal hydroxide at the pH level that is defined as environmentally safe and not changing chemistry of seawater. A corresponding method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7331016
Abstract: The invention describes system and method for generation a derivative document from a patent document, which provide value, enhanced representation of the document and facilitate comprehension of information contained in the patent document. A segment of the patent document is selected and transformed into a value added form by extracting at least two portions of information from the selected segment and converting them into different forms. Conveniently, the converted forms include respective elements where the required correspondence is established between the elements. Depending on customer needs and requirements to the system, a customized selection of the elements can be provided with optional display, storage and/or delivery of the selected data over a network. Beneficially, generation of the derivative is performed by using distributed processing of the document in a network, where two or more computers are involved.

  • Publication number: 20060129939
Abstract: A method for the simultaneous graphical display of paths of optical wavelength channels in a telecommunications network together with one or more channel attributes is provided. The graphical display of the network also shows the direction of data flow transported by the channels. An audible or visual alarm for an error condition for a channel attribute on a link in the network can be produced if requires. The operator can also obtain detailed information on a channel by positioning the mouse over a channel.

  • Patent number: 6996323
Abstract: A system and method for operating a plurality of eVOAs in an optical network is provided. The system comprises a number of eVOAs, each eVOA coupled to one or more optical taps and connected to a microcontroller. The microcontroller comprises a monitor signal processing controller for measuring the power of the optical signal at the eVOAs; a scheduler for continuously cycling and checking the eVOAs operating attenuations; a microprocessing controller for determining, setting, adjusting and updating the eVOA operating attenuation and a means for communications between the microprocessor and the other controller within the system. The microcontroller cycles through the plurality of eVOAs and controls one eVOA at a time according to a predetermined method of the eVOA operation. Individual eVOAs may be controlled according to the same or different methods of controlling operations thereof as required.

  • Patent number: 6987922
Abstract: This invention describes a method for controlling attenuation for a variable optical attenuator (VOA) inserted in an optical path of an optical signal propagating in an optical network, comprising the steps of measuring power of the optical signal at the VOA; comparing the measured power with a target power; and if the measured power differs from the target power, changing the attenuation of the VOA in one or more variable size intervals (VSI) so that the power of the optical signal substantially equals to the target power, wherein the VSI being a function of the measured power and target power.

  • Patent number: 6915463
Abstract: Methods and network nodes are provided which are adapted to perform protection switching on the basis of raw signal quality information, such as raw BER information, in a manner which instigates the protection switching before an actual failure has occurred. In some embodiments, these methods leverage forward error correction and uncorrected BER to effect traffic redirection before faults are observed at layer 2 and above. This is as opposed to the method of switching layer 2 traffic in response to bitstream characteristics observed at that layer.
