Abstract: The instant invention relates to novel tris(hydroxyphenyl)triazines coating compositions, for instance automotive coating compositions, and to novel tris(hydroxyphenyl) triazines UV-absorbers having a long wavelength sifted absorption spectrum with significant absorbance up to 420 nm. Further aspects of the invention are a UV stabilized composition containing the novel UV-absorbers, a process for the stabilization of organic materials and coatings and the use of the compounds as UV-light stabilizers for organic materials and coatings.

Abstract: Novel compounds of formula I are described wherein E corresponds to the formula or to the formula and the radicals R1, R2, R11, R22, R?22, R?33 and R?33 are as defined in claim 1. Compounds of formula I are suitable for stabilizing organic material, especially plastics materials, surface-coatings, cosmetic preparations, sun protection agents or photographic material, against damage by light, oxygen and/or heat.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a stabilizer mixture containing a low amount of chloride comprising a) 50-80% by weight of tetrakis(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl)biphenylene diphosphonite and its isomers, b) 5-25% by weight of bis(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl)biphenylene monophosphonite and its isomers, and c) 5-25% by weight of a tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite, and where the sum of components (a), (b) and (c) is not greater than 100% by weight, by reacting biphenyl under Friedel-Crafts condition with phosphorus trichloride and aluminium trichloride and by reacting the product mixture with 2,4-di-tert-butyl-phenol in the presence of a tertiary amine or an aromatic amine and a solvent, separating the formed two layers, which process comprises treating the solvent layer with water, a base and a desiccant, separating the precipitate from the solution containing the stabilizer mixture and evaporating the solvent.
