  • Publication number: 20160290799
Abstract: An orientation or position of a device may be determined through a determination of a slope of a path currently being traveled by a vehicle. The slope of the path may be determined from data indicating a movement of the vehicle provided by sensors of a data acquisition device coupled with the vehicle. A tilt value of the data acquisition device using the sensors of the data acquisition device may also be determined. A position of the data acquisition device may be established based on the slope of the path and the tilt value of the data acquisition device.

  • Publication number: 20160274239
Abstract: Obstructions in a path of a vehicle may be determined by recording a plurality of measurements while the vehicle is traveling through a geographic area. The plurality of measurements may involve a velocity of the vehicle, positions relative to the vehicle of a plurality of objects in the geographic area. Also, a path of a vehicle may be determined. An obstruction in the path may be detected as an object of the plurality of objects that is in the path. Also, the obstruction may be determined to be a stationary obstruction as a function of the velocity of the vehicle and multiple positions of the obstruction relative to the vehicle measured over time.

  • Publication number: 20160003022
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to cementitious fluids comprising additives configured to form a permeable cement matrix after curing of the cement. The cementitious fluids can comprise a cementitious medium (e.g., a cement slurry) with a plurality of fibers dispersed therein. The fibers can be hollow, can be porous, and can be degradable. The cementitious fluid particularly can be used in methods of stimulating hydrocarbon bearing formations. Specifically, the cementitious fluid can be injected into the formation to form or enlarge a fracture, and the fluid can be cured to form the permeable cement matrix, said permeability arising from a loosely assembled tubular network and/or passages remaining after degradation of the fibers.

  • Publication number: 20140239164
Abstract: The present disclosure provides sensing systems and methods that are useful for monitoring materials (e.g., cement) via light diffusion to identify characteristics thereof and changes therein. The systems can utilize a light source, a light sensor, and light transmitting members combined with the material to be monitored. In use, light from the light source can be allowed to scatter through the material via the light transmitting members for detection by the light sensor. The data regarding the light transfer can be transmitted utilizing a communication interface and can be analyzed using data processing equipment. The systems and methods may particularly be utilized in monitoring the reinforcing cement positioned between the casing and the formation in an oil well.

  • Patent number: 8806232
Abstract: In an embodiment, a control circuit is configured to transmit operations to a circuit block that is being powered up after being powered down, to reinitialize the circuit block for operation. The operations may be stored in a memory (e.g. a set of registers) to which the control circuit is coupled. In an embodiment, the control circuit may also be configured to transmit other operations from the memory to the circuit block prior to the circuit block being powered down. Accordingly, the circuit block may be powered up or powered down even during times that the processors in the system are powered down (and thus software is not executable at the time), without waking the processors for the power up/power down event. In an embodiment, the circuit block may be a cache coupled to the one or more processors.

  • Publication number: 20140209298
Abstract: Systems and methods that utilize bremsstrahlung radiation may be used to facilitate the setting of a settable composition. For example, a method may include providing a settable composition in a portion of a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, a portion of the subterranean formation, or both; conveying an electron accelerator tool along the wellbore proximal to the settable composition; producing an electron beam in the electron accelerator tool with a trajectory that impinges a converter material, thereby converting the electron beam to bremsstrahlung photons; and irradiating the settable composition with the bremsstrahlung photons.

  • Patent number: 8662174
Abstract: The present invention includes methods and compositions relating to the setting of fluids or slurries in a wellbore. In one embodiment, a method of isolating a portion a wellbore includes preparing a sealant composition having a fluid component, a polymeric additive constituent, and a set modifier component. The sealant composition is placed into a wellbore and subjected to ionizing radiation. The ionizing radiation can cause bonding between polymeric additive constituents and create a polymer matrix within the sealant composition that increases the mechanical strength of the sealant composition. The ionizing radiation also alters the set modifier component, triggering the thickening of the sealant composition.
