    Abstract: A vertical axis fluid turbine for mechanical and electrical power generation is disclosed. The turbine is comprised of at least three camber-less symmetrical foils rotating about a main axis. Each foil is capable of independent rotation about its own respective axis. A closed loop feedback control system orients the foils to consistently maintain a forward edge into the flow of the fluid. Each foil generates lift in the forward and rearward arcs of rotation, while minimizing drag.

    Abstract: A vertical-axis wind turbine mounts a plurality of wind-catching blades for rotation relative to two arms which sandwich each of the blades. A wind-directional vane provides a micro-processor data on the wind direction via a rotary encoder. In a first embodiment, a plurality of vane-position sensors and motors transmit and receive, respectively, information which adjusts the vane positions as a feedback loop. An alternate configuration utilizes home-position sensors which transmit the rotary displacement from the home position of each of the vanes to the micro-controller which keeps track of the respective vane positions and transmits repositioning information to the stepper motors to optimize energy extracted from the available wind currents by rotating the noses of the vanes to extend generally directly into the wind.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting encoded data from one computer system to another using an AT command set compatible communication device is described. Data being sent from a communications application to the AT command set compatible communication device is monitored, and encryption is performed in response to detecting a connect message and a carrier detect signal received from the communication device and changing in response to said detection the state of an encryption application from a first state to a remote state and the data is encrypted using a stream encryption scheme before it is passed to the communication device. When a break sequence is detected or a carrier detect signal is deasserted, encryption is ceased thus having the encryption application automatically return to the first state.
