Patent number: 7181765Abstract: A router (200) monitors (302) a data packet sent from an originator (102) via the router and addressed to a destination device (112, 116) other than the router, and determines (304) whether the data packet is potentially harmful to the destination device. The router interrupts (306) transmission of the data packet in response to determining that the data packet is potentially harmful to the destination device, including communicating (307) with a second router to cause the second router to interrupt transmission of a future data packet; and transmits (308) the data packet in response to determining that the data packet is not potentially harmful to the destination device.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Vijaykumar M. Patel, Jheroen P. Dorenbosch

Patent number: 6757269Abstract: A mobile wireless router (100) includes a first wireless transceiver (102) for accessing a wireless packet data channel (206), and a network interface (106) for coupling to a first network (204). The mobile wireless router also includes a processor (104) coupled to the first wireless transceiver and coupled to the network interface for controlling and communicating with the first wireless transceiver and the network interface. The processor is programmed to provide an internet protocol (IP) router function to terminal equipment (TE) (202) coupled to the mobile wireless router through the first network, and is further programmed to appear, to another device (214) in a second network (220) coupled via the wireless packet data channel, to be an ordinary router.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2001Date of Patent: June 29, 2004Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Jheroen P. Dorenbosch, Vijaykumar M. Patel

Publication number: 20030078019Abstract: A method according to the present invention provides a wireless system service reseller (22) with the capability of connecting a subscriber station (14) to a service provider system (16, 24) that offers the most advantageous service to the subscriber station (14) out of all service provider system choices. Initially, the service reseller (22) receives a service request from the subscriber station (14). It then evaluates available service provider systems (16, 24) to determine a most advantageous service provider system for the subscriber station (14) based on the received service request. After it evaluates the available service provider systems (16, 24), it instructs the subscriber station (14) to initiate communication using the most advantageous service provider system as determined based on its evaluation of available service provider systems (16, 24).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2001Publication date: April 24, 2003Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Jheroen Pieter Dorenbsoch, Vijaykumar M. Patel

Patent number: 5442646Abstract: A communication system (100) is provided for transmitting data to mobile receivers utilizing a subcarrier within a commercial FM channel of a radio station (55). The data transmitted is first encoded in encoder (112), utilizing a forward error correction code. The sequence of the encoded data is altered in interleaver (116), subdivided into a plurality of subframes, in framing and synchronization circuit (120), which also adds channel state bits to each subframe. The framed data is modulated onto the subcarrier in the differential quadrature phased shift keying modulator (130), the output of which is coupled to the FM modulator (52) of radio station transmitter (50). The transmitted radio frequency signals may be received by a vehicle antenna (12) for coupling to the vehicle's FM receiver (80). The modulated subcarrier is recovered from the FM demodulator (84) of the receiver (80), the modulated subcarrier being demodulated to recover the encoded digital data therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1994Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: The Mitre CorporationInventors: David J.
