Patent number: 10429858Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of providing advisory controls for a desalter system. The method allows a user to continuously monitor performance of the desalter system, to continuously monitor position of the emulsion band (or rag layer), to control the emulsion band using demulsifiers, and to recommend to users how to maintain optimal pressure drop at the mixing device of the desalter system. This is achieved by using a first principles based model combined with a sensor to measure the position, quality and size of the emulsion band. The first principles based model takes into account the geometry of the desalter system, physical properties of the crude oil and water, as well as the operating conditions. Thus, the method provides users with sensing of an emulsion layer through direct measurements and also gives recommendations on appropriate corrective actions to be initiated during upsets.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2015Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: BL Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Vijaysai Prasad, Jayaprakash Sandhala Radhakrishnan, Jeffrey Allen Zurlo, Richard Stephen Hutte, Arjun Bhattacharyya, Manish Joshi

Publication number: 20180370827Abstract: A method of operating a waste water treatment plant (WWTP) having at least one of an aerobic digester (AD) and a membrane bioreactor (MBR) is described. The method of operating AD is comprised of monitoring and controlling AD in real-time using an online extended Kalman filter (EKF) having a online dynamic model of AD. The EKF uses real-time AD measured data, and online dynamic model of AD to update adapted model parameters and estimate model based inferred variables for AD, which are used for AD control by AD control system having supervisory and low-level control layers. The method of operating MBR is similar to that of AD. The supervisory control ensures the WWTP satisfying the effluent quality requirement while minimize the operation cost. A WWTP having at least one of an AD or MBR is disclosed. The method of operating a WWTP can be implemented using a computer.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2018Publication date: December 27, 2018Applicant: General Electric CompanyInventors: Aditya Kumar, Anthony John Murray, Ruijie Shi, Zhaoyang Wan, Mustafa Tekin Dokucu, Vijaysai Prasad

Publication number: 20180216017Abstract: According to some embodiments, data associated with the operation of a desalter vessel (150), adapted to receive a raw crude input and a water input and facilitate creation of a desalted crude output and a salt water output, may be stored in a computer storage device (630). A computer processor (610) may determine at least one parameter associated with the data in the computer store. The computer processor (610) may then automatically calculate, based on the determined parameter and a physics-based dynamic desalter model (400), an adjustment value for a second parameter associated with operation of the desalter vessel. Using the automatically calculated adjustment value, the computer processor (610) may automatically generate and transmit an indication of the adjustment value so as to improve operation of the desalter vessel (150).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2016Publication date: August 2, 2018Inventors: Aditya KUMAR, Michael Alan DION, Nimeshkumar Kantilal PATEL, Conrad Keny TERAN, Dan DAI, Randall Charles MCFARLANE, Sree Rama Raju VETUKURI, Vijaysai PRASAD

Patent number: 7455099Abstract: A technique is disclosed for evaluating and monitoring performance of a heat exchanger system. Operating parameters of the system are monitored and fouling factors for heat transfer surfaces of the exchanger are determined. Trending of fouling may be performed over time based upon the fouling factors, and a model of fouling may be selected from known sets of models, or a model may be developed or refined. Fluid treatment, such as water treatment regimes may be taken into account in evaluation of fouling. An automated knowledge based analysis algorithm may diagnose possible caused of fouling based upon sensed and observed parameters and conditions.
