Abstract: An architecture, such as but not necessarily limited to an architecture sufficient to facilitate service discovery within a network having two or more local area networks (LANs), is contemplated. The architecture may be employed in a router, gateway or other device configured to facilitate signaling between multiple routed networks, such as to facilitate service discovery across multiple routed networks.

Abstract: Translation of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) addresses is contemplated, such as for use in allowing IPv4 devices to connect with IPv6 device without requiring the IPv4 devices to specify the IPv6 address of the connected-to IPv6 device. The IPv6 addresses may be translated to IPv4 addresses suitable for use with the IPv4 devices in a manner that sufficiently compresses the IPv6 for use with the more bit limited nomenclature of an IPv4 address.

The prefix delegation resulting in multiple prefixes being delegated to internal routers and/or customer premise equipment (CPE) associated with a common link wherein at least two of the delegated prefixes are associated with different service providers.

Abstract: Wireless access network selection is contemplated. The selection process may include arbitrating use of a plurality of wireless networks according to their performance capabilities. The performance capabilities or parameters may be identified from information broadcasted from the wireless networks. Mobile devices capable of wirelessly connecting to the networks may identify the performance capabilities prior to connecting to the wireless networks, thereby enabling the mobile devices to more efficiently identify suitable networks.

Abstract: Usage based accounting is contemplated. The usage based accounting may be beneficial in facilitating assessment of data usage for devices connected inside of a network address translator (NAT) or other type of device having limited capabilities to associated data usage with specific user devices.

Abstract: Providing virtual private network (VPN) sessions or other types of secure or private access to data when a client authorized to access the data travels or otherwise roams from a home network to a partner network is contemplated. The VPN session may be established as part of or as a result of an authentication process undertaken by the client when gaining access to the partner network, such as but not necessarily limited to a home network authentication process undertaken at the partner network to authenticate the client to access partner network services.

Abstract: A watermarking process is contemplated to facilitate branding and other message communication operations, such as to facilitate notifying a user associated with a home service provider watermark or communicating advertisements and/or personal messages to the user while accessing services through a visited service provider. The contemplated watermarking process may be particularly beneficial with devices having capabilities to roam between multiple service providers.

Abstract: Network transmission of messages is contemplated. The contemplated transmission may be facilitated a selectable one or more interfaces. The interfaces may be included as part of a gateway or other device tasked with facilitating network communications, such as but not limited to a gateway tasked with facilitate network transmissions between device connected to a home network and devices connected beyond the home network.
