    Abstract: The method of the present invention is useful in a computer system including a server accessing a database and connected to a magnetic tape drive and operates to expedite the retrieval of audit files on tape while performing a database recovery. The program executes a method for locating a group of audit files of a database that is backed-up on magnetic tape media. The method includes the steps of creating a Tapeset for the group of audit files, initializing a disk directory file which holds positional information of the Tapeset, and locating each of the audit files within the group of audit files using the positional information contained in the disk directory file.
