Patent number: 10694364Abstract: This disclosure relates to providing local address information while roaming. A wireless device may connect to a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point in a roaming location. The wireless device may communicate with one or more servers of a home network via the WLAN access point. The wireless device may provide a local address of the wireless device to the home network in one or more messages related to a service. The home network may be configured to determine a location of the wireless device based on the local address and determine whether to provide the service based on the location of the wireless device. In response to the home network determining to provide the service based on the location of the wireless device, the wireless device may perform the service using the home network via the WLAN access point.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2017Date of Patent: June 23, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Patent number: 10470016Abstract: Some embodiments relate to methods for provisioning a secondary wireless device with an eSIM for wireless communication and activating multi-SIM functionality between the secondary wireless device and a primary wireless device having a subscribed SIM. The primary wireless device may act as a proxy in obtaining the eSIM for the secondary wireless device. The primary wireless device may then provide, to the cellular network, identifiers of the SIMs of the primary and secondary wireless devices. The primary wireless device may then request initiation of multi-SIM functionality for the two SIMs, and receive an indication that the multi-SIM functionality has been initiated. As an example, the multi-SIM functionality may be implemented by mapping the SIM of the primary wireless device and the SIM of the secondary wireless device (e.g., the provisioned eSIM) to the same Mobile Directory Number (MDN).Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2018Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Patent number: 10327196Abstract: Methods and apparatus for intelligent scheduling in hybrid networks based on client identity. For example, in one embodiment, the hybrid networks are cellular networks (e.g., LTE and CDMA 1X), and a cellular device uses a single-radio solution to support circuit-switched calls on a CDMA 1X network and packet-switched calls on LTE. Periodically, the cellular device tunes away from LTE and monitors CDMA 1X activity, and vice versa. The LTE network can infer the cellular device's tune away schedule, based on the device's identity, and the paging schedule algorithm of the CDMA 1X network.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2013Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Patent number: 10187760Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a cellular network which facilitates transmission of messages, such as SMS or MMS messages, to/from respective user equipment (UE) devices of a user. Each of the UE devices may provide a relative priority value indicating a priority for receipt of messages relative to the other UE devices associated with the user. When a message intended for the user is received at the cellular network, the priority information associated with each of the user's at least two UE devices may be retrieved. The message may then be selectively delivered (by the cellular network) to one of the first UE device or the second UE device based on the relative values of the first priority value and the second priority value. If a delivery attempt fails to the highest priority device, the cellular network may attempt to deliver the message to the second highest priority UE device.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2016Date of Patent: January 22, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Arun G. Patent number: 10098181Abstract: Determining whether to operate in a single radio access technology (RAT) mode or a dual RAT mode for a user equipment (UE) having a radio capable of communicating using at least a first RAT and a second RAT. The UE may determine whether current path loss for the first RAT exceeds a maximum path loss. Based on the results of determining whether the current path loss for the first RAT exceeds the maximum path loss, the UE may determine whether to operate in the single RAT mode or the dual RAT mode. Accordingly, based on this determination, the UE may operate in the single RAT mode or the dual RAT mode based on the determination.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2014Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Prashant H Vashi, Vikram B Yerrabommanahalli, Teck Yang Lee

Patent number: 9930578Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a cellular network which better utilizes packet-switched (PS) voice technologies, such as VoLTE, for roaming user equipment (UE) devices. When a roaming UE associated with a home cellular carrier that does not support PS to CS handover (SRVCC) desires to make a VoLTE call, the cellular network may determine probability of such a handover during the the call. The cellular network may selectively accept or reject the packet-switched wireless voice call based on the handover probability. If the probability of handover is high, the cellular network may reject the packet-switched wireless voice and trigger the UE to fall back to a circuit-switched network and re-originate the wireless voice call on the circuit-switched network. In the case of a mobile terminated call, the cellular network may provide signaling to the UE to perform a fallback to a circuit-switched network in order to receive the mobile terminated call.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2015Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Prashant H. Patent number: 9888521Abstract: A method includes a wireless mobile device communicating with a wireless network via an evolved high rate packet data (eHRPD) interface. The wireless mobile device may receive a vendor specific network control protocol (VSNCP) packet such as a terminate-request packet, for example, that indicates the wireless network has requested a PDN disconnection. The VSNCP packet includes a cause code that indicates a reason for the PDN disconnection request. The wireless device may use the cause code to determine the reason for the PDN disconnection request. Accordingly, in response to receiving the VSNCP packet, the wireless mobile device may perform one or more operations in an effort to resolve any issues that may have caused the PDN disconnection request.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2015Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Patent number: 9876903Abstract: Apparatus, system, and method for notifying a mobile station of an incoming circuit switched call during a packet switched session. During the packet switched session, a mobile station may receive a call notification of the circuit switched call. The call notification may be received via a packet switched network associated with the packet switched session. Additionally, the call notification may identify a calling party. In response, an indication of the circuit switched call may be displayed to a user on a display of the mobile station. This indication of the circuit switched call may identify the calling party. Additionally, the indication may be displayed while maintaining the packet switched session. In response, the user may provide input to the mobile station regarding whether to accept the circuit switched call. Based on this input, the mobile station may accept or reject the circuit switched call.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2014Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B.
