  • Patent number: 7326923
Abstract: A system manipulates molecules using a set of proximal probes such as those used in atomic force microscopes. An electrostatic pattern is placed on a set of proximal probes such that each proximal probe may exert an electrostatic force. A molecule is captured using those electrostatic forces, after which the molecule can be manipulated while the molecule remains captured by the proximal probes. The electrostatic pattern can be modified such that the molecule moves and/or rotates over the set of proximal probes while the molecule remains captured by the set of proximal probes. The electrostatic pattern can be used to bend or split the molecule while the molecule remains captured by the set of proximal probes, thereby allowing the system to engage the molecule in chemical reactions, e.g., to act as a synthetic catalyst or a synthetic enzyme.

  • Publication number: 20070294120
Abstract: The illustrative embodiments provide a computer implemented method, computer usable program code, and system for managing special requests of meeting attendees through an electronic calendar application. A host lists prospective attendees to a meeting in an electronic calendar application. The calendar application searches the attendees' profiles for any special requests the attendees may have. Upon finding a special request, the calendar application contacts an appropriate special requests service vendor and arranges for the special requests service. The calendar application then follows up by confirming the meeting with the special requests service vendor and inviting the meeting attendees.

  • Publication number: 20070291917
Abstract: A method and system are provided in which teleconference calls are scheduled in advance and, at an appropriate predetermined time, calls are automatically made to the designated participants of the conference calls thereby avoiding the need for the participants to call into a teleconference center. In a preferred embodiment, when teconferences are scheduled, the telecon participants are designated and their phone numbers are input or otherwise determined, for example, through access to a centralized database. A calendar is monitored and at a predetermined time relative to the scheduled start of the telecon, a server system application initiates the calling of the participants for connection to the telecon. The system may be configured to require participants to enter a password before the connection is completed. The status of the called participants is determined and displayed on individual display devices of the other participants in the telecon.

  • Publication number: 20070262848
Abstract: The present invention provides a system that records, at a remote location, the current status of a door lock. This invention provides a key fob device, which records the current status of a door look. The key fob indicates to the user the current lock status of the given door(s) in question. The key fob is a small key chain attached device, which records the state of the door locks, or other devices or appliances, as one departs from the door. The system of the present invention comprises a sensor at the door that detects the current lock status of a door and transmits this lock to the key fob. Also incorporated into the key fob is circuitry that receives and records this received lock status. A display component in the key fob displays this current lock status when prompted by the user.

  • Patent number: 7296229
Abstract: A master dictionary or glossary is updated at a server, and the update to the master dictionary or glossary is served to the application on the client to update a local copy of the dictionary or glossary. A datastream may also be processed by automatically scanning a datastream and automatically detecting, in the datastream, a word that cannot be matched to a word in a dictionary or glossary. The unmatched word is identified as an acronym, and in response, data associated with the acronym, selected from a hierarchical set of glossaries, is inserted into the datastream in close proximity to the acronym. In another aspect of processing a datastream, in response to an indication that the unmatched word is a properly spelled new term, a dictionary or glossary may be updated with the new term.

  • Patent number: 7271738
Abstract: A method and implementing computer system are provided for enabling management of restricted parking spaces for vehicles. In an example, a sensing system senses the presence of vehicles in predetermined parking spaces and stores that information for subsequent processing. Particular parking restrictions, or limited parking indicia, for given parking spaces are displayed and viewable to vehicle operators. The posted parking restriction indicia are selectively changeable to accommodate various parking demand situations. The displayed limited parking indicia may be changed from one type of limited parking to other types of limited (or unlimited) parking from a remote server location, either selectively by an administrator or in accordance with a stored parking authorization plan or schedule. Vehicles are scanned for proper authorization for predetermined types of parking spaces.

  • Publication number: 20070192734
Abstract: Methods and arrangements to control pop-up windows are contemplated. Embodiments include transformations, code, state machines or other logic to deny focus to a pop-up window that is generated within a pop-up delay interval of input activity on the part of a user. In some embodiments, the pop-up delay interval may be a default value such as ten seconds. In other embodiments, the pop-up delay interval is configurable. In some embodiments, the pop-up window may be granted focus after the user ceases input activity for the pop-up delay interval. In some embodiments, the pop-up window may be displayed without focus. Some of these embodiments may modify the region of the screen in which the pop-up window is displayed. In some embodiments, the pop-up window may be displayed in a portion of the screen that does not overlap with the portion of the window that does have focus. In some embodiments, the user may be notified that a pop-up window was displayed without focus.

  • Publication number: 20070118839
Abstract: A method and apparatus for modeling grid projects, such that their network and node resources may be readily determinable for simulation, scheduling, and control purposes. A model of a grid project is generated using a standardized grid project modeling language that sets forth a sequence of grid project phases. Within each phase, there may be any number of descriptions of parallel activities that need to be performed, such as, CPU processing, network activity, both, or even nested “sub” phases. Each of the descriptions specifies the properties of the described activities, such as the quantity of CPU required, network traffic expected, prerequisites, dependencies, activity splitting limits and characteristics, reliability actions, etc. The grid project model is parseable by the present invention to determine the various phases of a grid project and the various characteristics of each phase.

  • Publication number: 20070112918
Abstract: Systems, methods and media for screening member messages in an instant messaging environment are disclosed. In one embodiment, chat messages are stored as communications requests in a queue. A user-specified chat limit determines the maximum number of chats that may be taking place concurrently. When the chat limit is reached, additional requests received are placed in the queue, waiting to be processed. When a chat terminates, a next-out request is received from the queue and processed. Also, a user may specify a priority for each of a plurality of members in a communications network. A request from a user with special priority may be advanced to the head of the queue to be processed immediately.

  • Publication number: 20070095636
Abstract: Signals in a proper cadence are recognized as meeting criteria. Such signals are received from a touch plate coupled to a touch circuit. A controller discriminates against spurious signals if such signals are outside an initial tolerance, that is, are faster or slower than a device operator would enter such signals. Providing the criteria for an initial tolerance and a match tolerance are met, the controller actuates a device, such as a light emitting diode.

  • Publication number: 20070094002
Abstract: A method and apparatus for depicting grid availability at various times and for illustrating a simulation of the way in which a grid project will be executed based on grid availability. In addition, the affects of introducing new nodes into the grid may be determined and the affects on the simulated behavior of the grid with regard to the running of a grid project may be depicted using the graphical user interface. From this information, a user may determine the optimal time to initiate processing of a grid project by the computing grid.
