  • Patent number: 6191185
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a game ball, such as a golf ball, having an indicia formed from a UV curable ink containing aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) filler. The ATH improves pad transfer of the ink. An ink composition suitable for pad printing, and a method for applying an indicia to a game ball also are disclosed. The UV curable ink has excellent pad transfer properties, and good durability.

  • Patent number: 6100361
Abstract: A urethane top coat prepared by combining a polyol and a blend of an aliphatic diisocyanate and an aliphatic/aromatic polyisocyanate copolymer is provided, along with a method for its use as the top coating for a golf ball. The inventive top coating demonstrates an increased rate of curing compared to other top coatings having similar abrasion resistance and color retention qualities.

  • Patent number: 6083119
Abstract: A golf ball, comprising:a core;an inner cover layer formed over the core, the inner cover layer having a Shore D hardness of at least 60 as measured on the curved surface thereof, andan outer cover layer formed over the inner cover layer, the outer cover layer having a Shore D hardness of no more than 53 as measured on the curved surface thereof,at least one of the inner and outer cover layers comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of polycarbonates, reaction-injection-molded polyurethanes, and styrene-butadiene elastomers, the golf ball having a PGA compression of 100 or less and a coefficient of restitution of at least 0.750.

  • Patent number: 5827134
Abstract: A method for improving the adhesive bonding of a top coat to a game ball such as a golf ball while simultaneously forming an identification stamp on the ball by (i) stamping an unfinished golf ball with a radiation curable ink and (ii) subjecting the unfinished golf ball to irradiation prior to application of a finish or top coat. Game balls so treated exhibit superior adhesion of a top coat and avoid the need for application of a primer coat between the unfinished golf ball and the outer top coat.
