Patent number: 5318478Abstract: An elastic clutch of disk design is used with a divided flywheel for an internal combustion engine having two clutch halves which are rotatable relative to each other and include several cutouts about their circumference. Helical springs are disposed in a parallel and nested manner and upon mutual rotation of the two clutch halves are operable essentially simultaneously. The elastic clutch elements include a main spring and at least two partial springs which are arranged within the main spring. A one-part or multiple-part guide component disposed between the partial springs centers the partial springs and supports them in relation to the main spring.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventors: Viktor Kuhne, Rolf Brockmann

Patent number: 5289737Abstract: In an elastic clutch of disk design, particularly a split flywheel for an internal combustion engine, a coupling including an oblong spring is arranged between two coupling halves that are mutually rotatable. Essentially stretched in relaxed condition, the spring is subdivided in two or more partial sections by wedge-shaped spring cups, the longitudinal axes of which partial sections have relative to one another a buckled arrangement. Obtained in this way is a spring favorable for specific operating conditions, with a low spring stiffness, but with the spring being composed of essentially straight-line partial sections. Provided thereby is a spring that can be manufactured at low cost, which, in operation, is favorably stressed and not subjected to any wear.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1993Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventor: Viktor Kuhne

Patent number: 5103688Abstract: A two-mass flywheel for installation between an internal combustion engine and gearing is able to cope with peak torques, especially in the region of the resonance rotation rate, with a friction device unlimitedly twistable in the circumferential direction, which is connected in series with a spring unit. With the friction device a displacement chamber and stop are combined so that slipping of the friction device occurs only on hydraulically damped abutting of the two masses, the arrangement being made such that only small masses have to be accelerated for the case of slipping.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventor: Viktor Kuhne

Patent number: 5095771Abstract: A double-mass flywheel for installation between an internal combustion engine and a transmission. A first flywheel mass associated with the crankshaft of the engine has the shape of a first U which opens radially inward and each of the arms of the U forms a side disk. A second flywheel mass associated with the transmission has the shape of a second U which opens radially outward toward the circumference. The second U engages as a center disk between the two side disks. The two masses are turnable to a limited extent with respect to each other, with the interposition of elastic members which rest at least indirectly on the one side against the first mass and on the other side against the center disk. Damping elements are interposed between the two masses and extend parallel to the elastic members. The center disk is formed of three concentric, partial disks, comprising an inner partial disks and two outer partial disks.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1991Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventor: Viktor Kuhne

Patent number: 5088964Abstract: An elastic coupling, particularly for a multi-mass flywheel in the drive train of a motor vehicle drive. The elastic coupling has three masses which are connected to each other in each case by spring elements, a damping device being connected in parallel with each spring element. The damping device between the first and the second masses includes radially extending projections on the second mass which exert either a circumferential force on the first springs or a damping force in an adjacent fluid displacement chamber. The side walls of the fluid displacement chambers simultaneously serve as retaining shoulders for the springs in the adjacent spring chambers whereby the projections can carry out the above-mentioned dual functions. A great advantage of this arrangement is a particularly advantageous space-spacing arrangement of the damping device in the radially outer region of the elastic coupling.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1989Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: J. Patent number: 5072818Abstract: The invention concerns an elastic clutch including a hydraulic damping device wherein a viscous damping medium is displaced through predetermined gaps upon occurrence of large angles of rotation. To that end, a cam arranged on one clutch half plunges into a capsule type displacement chamber. The cam features friction elements which in the plunging make elastic and sealing contact with the sidewalls of the capsule, thereby causing both an effective sealing of the displacement chamber and also a frictional damping which supports the hydraulic damping. The disk type second clutch half can, during operation, more freely adjust within the clutch, which simplifies the manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventor: Viktor Kuhne

Patent number: 5064042Abstract: The invention concerns a torsionally elastic clutch whose clutch halves are nested in disk fashion and feature window-shaped cutouts which house tangentially arranged helical springs, with an outer guide body arranged in the outer peripheral area of the individual spring and preventing the spring from buckling, which body is shorter than the spring. The clutch is characterized in that an inner guide body is provided also within the individual spring, which body is shorter than the spring, and in that the two guide bodies are in relation to the spring fixed in such a way that one guide body will remain constantly coordinated with the one end area of the spring and the other guide body constantly with the other end area of the spring.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1990Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Assignee: J. M. Voith GmbHInventors: Viktor Kuhne, Hark Twisselmann, Franz Brenner

Patent number: 5017179Abstract: A flexible coupling of a disk construction. One coupling half includes outside side disks and a radially exterior flange joining the side disks for enclosing an inner space for holding damping liquid. The other coupling half includes one or a plurality of middle disks disposed in the inner space. Flexible coupling elements join the disks to move together. For damping oscillation, a plurality of displacement chambers are defined at spaced intervals around the disks, each between a radially extending circumferential end wall in the middle disk and a radial surface defined on a bolt or the like extending between the outer disks. Throttle gaps control the exit of the damping fluid from the displacement chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1989Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Assignee: J.M. Voith GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Hanke, Viktor Kuhne
