  • Patent number: 9484621
Abstract: A method of fabricating the body of the portable electronic device as well as the resulting portable electronic device and its body are provided to facilitate the transmission of radio frequency signals through the body of the portable electronic device. In the context of a method, at least one aperture and, in some instances, a plurality of apertures are defined by laser perforation through a conductive portion of the body of the portable electronic device. The method may also anodize the conductive portion including at least partially filling the at least one aperture with an anodization layer. As such, the conductive portion of the body of the portable electronic device has a relatively consistent, metallic appearance, even though laser perforation apertures are defined therein for supporting the transmission of radio frequency signals.

  • Patent number: 9364861
Abstract: A tube-shaped assembly, a tube-shaped part and an associated method of manufacturing the same are provided. In regards to a method, a glass or plastic tube is provided that has a maskant positioned upon an interior region of the tube to define a window. The method also includes coating an interior surface of the tube with a tinted anti-splinter material having a dye or pigment mixed therein. The method also includes curing the tinted anti-splinter material and removing the maskant such that the interior region is free of the tinted anti-splinter material. A tube-shaped part is also provided that includes a glass or plastic tube and a maskant positioned upon an interior region of the tube to define a window. The tube-shaped part also includes a tinted anti-splinter material having a dye or pigment mixed therein.

  • Publication number: 20130307790
Abstract: Systems and techniques for controlling a device using contacts with a touch sensitive surface, with contacts being analyzed to determine if they represent incidental contacts or deliberate inputs. Upon recognition of a contact to a touch sensitive surface of a device, the contact is analyzed to determine if it meets at least one criterion for recognition as an input. Criteria may include location of the contact, as well as characteristics of the contact or a pattern of which the contact is a part. When a contact is recognized as indicating a deliberate input, user feedback may be provided, indicating to a user that the input was successful or allowing the user to be informed in time to abort or counteract the input.
