  • Publication number: 20240077038
Abstract: A dual-fuel turbine engine is a type of turbine engine that can operate using two different fuel sources, such as liquid fuel (e.g., diesel) and natural gas. For liquid fuels, the turbine engine includes a primary line to facilitate engine startup and a secondary line to modify power output. Generally, the turbine engine only uses one type of fuel for combustion at a time. The fuel lines and passages in the fuel nozzles that carry the unused fuel source should preferably be purged and sealed by a purging system to reduce coking. However, conventional purge systems typically purge and seal only the secondary line for liquid fuels. As a result, the passages in the fuel nozzles connected to the primary line are prone to coking. To address this problem, a purge system is disclosed that purges and seals the primary line and, optionally, the secondary line.

  • Publication number: 20110091829
Abstract: The present invention explains a multi-fuel combustion system. It consist of a combustor basket adapted to combust at least two type of fuels. The combustor basket has got a circumferential wall comprising a plurality of openings. The combustion system further has a first conduit adapted to provide a first type of fuel directly to the combustor basket, a second conduit adapted to provide a second type of fuel directly to the combustor basket and a third conduit adapted to inject at least one of the first type of fuel and the second type of fuel through the openings into the combustor basket.

  • Publication number: 20110091824
Abstract: The present invention explains a method of operating a multi-fuel combustion system. It consist of a first phase and a second phase, wherein the first phase comprises of providing ignition to a combustor basket to ignite a first type of fuel, where the first type of fuel is supplied to the combustor basket through a first conduit. Also in first phase steam is also supplied to the first conduit in addition to the first type of fuel and steam is supplied to the second conduit after the ignition. In the second phase a second type of fuel is supplied to the combustor basket after ignition of the first fuel through the second conduit, while stopping the supply of the first fuel.

  • Publication number: 20100307160
Abstract: A gas turbine combustor is provided. The gas turbine combustor has a pilot nozzle having a pilot fuel injection port at a downstream end, in terms of the direction flow of a fuel, and lies on the axial centreline of the gas turbine combustor. It also has a main combustion zone, downstream of the pilot nozzle, and a pilot cone projecting from the vicinity of the pilot fuel injection port and having a diverged end adjacent to the main combustion zone, wherein a half angle of the pilot cone is increasing in the downstream direction.
