Patent number: 5583487Abstract: In a system for displaying prices in a retail store, improved system architecture and stored programs are disclosed to permit improved accuracy in confirming the physical location of display devices called labels. A response from a label to the host, or central computer, has appended to it an additional message by an appender, one of a plurality of appenders located throughout the architecture. The appender's message permits localization of the labels. A power-on status flag in a response from the labels permits the central computer to determine, through global inquiries to all the labels, whether any of the labels has had an interruption of power. A dongle or RF-linked bar-code scanner permits store personnel to send messages to the central computer to request that labels in a particular subarea of the store display alternative information such as the amount of inventory for items in that subarea.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1994Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Electronic Retailing Systems InternationalInventors: Marvin Ackerman, Vincent Berluti, Terrell Poland, Steven Waldron

Patent number: 4413183Abstract: A gamma camera having an array of photodetectors arranged to locate a flash of light produced by a scintillator in response to an incident gamma ray photon. A current pulse is produced by each one of the photodetectors in response to each incident gamma ray photon, the amount of charge produced by each one of such photodetectors being a measure of the portion of the energy of the photon detected by such one of the photodetectors. Each integrator produces a voltage which rises from an initial reference level, typically ground potential, to a peak level, such peak voltage level being representative of the amount of charge in the current pulse and hence the peak level of such voltage is a measure of the portion of the energy of the photon detected by such one of the photodetector. The outputs of the integrators are combined to provide X and Y coordinate location signals.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1980Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Israel Metal, Vincent Berluti, Jr.

Patent number: 4137460Abstract: A radiographic system comprising an X-ray source disposed to direct an X-ray beam through an adjustable shutter aperture in an aligned collimator and onto an image receptor in a holder located at a preselected distance from the source; and automatic means for preventing an X-ray exposure until prescribed operating conditions have been satisfied, the automatic means including a readily interchangeable read-only-memory module for storing the prescribed conditions therein and ascertaining whether or not the prescribed conditions have been met.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1976Date of Patent: January 30, 1979Assignee: The Machlett Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Thomas W. Fitzsimmons, Vincent Berluti, Jr., Howard G. Wagner, Jonathan S. Shapiro

Patent number: 4097793Abstract: An X-ray tube test system comprising signal processing circuitry including means for converting an analog signal representative of anode current into a train of pulses having an instantaneous frequency proportional to corresponding instantaneous amplitude values of the analog signal, means for counting the pulses in the train during an exposure time interval to obtain an integrated milliampere-second (MAS) value, means for summing a train of pulses having a uniform frequency during an interval of time equivalent to the exposure time interval to obtain an integral value for the exposure time, means for optionally dividing the MAS value by the exposure time value to obtain an average anode current (MA) value during the exposure time interval, and means for displaying numerical equivalents of the values thus obtained.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1976Date of Patent: June 27, 1978Assignee: The Machlett Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan S. Shapiro, Vincent Berluti, Jr., Anthony Pellegrino, Howard G. Wagner
