  • Publication number: 20180184119
Abstract: A method for displaying a sequence of pictures is disclosed. The sequence of picture coded as a multilayer stream comprising a base layer representative of the pictures of the sequence at a first resolution and/or first quality and at least one enhancement layer representative of the sequence pictures at a second resolution and/or second quality. The method comprises the following steps: decode the base layer from a random access point of the base layer and at least up to the decoding of a random access point of the enhancement layer to reconstruct pictures of the base layer, display the reconstructed pictures of the base layer, decode the enhancement layer from the random access point of the enhancement layer to reconstruct pictures of the enhancement layer, and display the reconstructed pictures of the enhancement layer.

  • Patent number: 8275037
Abstract: Methods for determining for high layer macroblocks that use inter-layer prediction, a partitioning of the macroblock. The methods include dividing the high layer macroblock in non-overlapping high layer blocks of a predefined size; determining a corresponding base layer pixel for one pixel, called reference pixel, of each high layer block; identifying, for each reference pixel, a base layer macroblock to which the corresponding base layer pixel belongs, a base layer partition to which the corresponding base layer pixel belongs in the identified base layer macroblock, a base layer sub-partition to which the corresponding base layer pixel belongs in the identified base layer partition if the sub-partition exists; deriving, for each of the high layer block, a single value, called Partlnfo value; and determining a partitioning of the high layer macroblock in macroblock partitions by comparing between them the Partlnfo values associated with each of the high layer blocks.

  • Patent number: 8090017
Abstract: Often hierarchical bi-directionally predicted frame structures are used for encoding a video picture sequence. The frames may consist of interlacing fields. A method for encoding interlaced video, wherein inter-prediction of fields is used and reference lists are assigned to the fields for indicating reference frames or fields, comprises that, if within such reference list a reference to another frame is included, then references to both fields of the other frame are included separately in direct sequence. Further, a temporal level is assigned to each of the frames according to their display order, and for the frames of all except one temporal level the quantization parameter is higher for one type of fields than for the other type of fields.

  • Publication number: 20080260043
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coding an image data macroblock of a sequence of images presented in the form of a base layer and at least one enhancement layer. The image data macroblock to which corresponds an image data block in the base layer, called a corresponding block, belongs to the enhancement layer. The method comprises the following steps: generate, for the said image data macroblock, a prediction macroblock of image data from one block or several blocks of image data blocks of the said base layer previously coded and reconstructed, generate a macroblock of residues from the prediction macroblock and from the image data macroblock MBEL of the enhancement layer, and code the said macroblock of residues. According to the invention, the image data blocks of the said base layer are different from the corresponding block.
