  • Publication number: 20190008574
Abstract: A system that produces temperature estimations of a tissue surface comprises a base including a motion unit. A fiber assembly includes at least one fiber constructed and arranged to receive infrared energy from the tissue surface, the fiber assembly transmissive of infrared energy; the fiber assembly including a proximal end, a distal end and a body. An optical element redirects received infrared energy to the distal end of the fiber optic. A linkage is coupled between the base and the optical element, the fiber extending through the linkage, the linkage coupled to the motion unit at a proximal end and the optical element at a distal end, the motion unit constructed and arranged to rotate the linkage about the fiber assembly to thereby rotate the optical element at the distal end.

  • Publication number: 20070255396
Abstract: A girdle for surrounding the chordae tendinae of a heart valve, and a system and method for delivering the girdle. The girdle gathers the chordae tendinae into a bundle to effectively shorten the chordae tendinae to resolve or reduce valve leaflet prolapse. The system includes a girdle releaseably carried within a delivery catheter, and a push rod to release the girdle from the delivery catheter. The girdle has a filamentous linear delivery configuration and one of several annular treatment configurations. The girdle may have a locking mechanism for locking the girdle in an annular treatment configuration.

  • Publication number: 20070219576
Abstract: An occlusion device is formed of an electroactive polymer element mounted on an elongated shaft. The electroactive polymer element includes an outer electrode, an inner electrode, and an electroactive polymer film disposed between the inner and outer electrodes. The electroactive polymer element may be formed in a hollow, generally cylindrical shape such that a longitudinal opening is formed inside of the inner electrode. The elongated shaft may be a guidewire or catheter. The inner and outer electrodes are coupled to an electrical power source such that an electrical voltage can be applied between the inner and outer electrodes. Upon application of the electrical voltage between the inner and outer electrodes, the electroactive polymer element expands to block a blood vessel of a patient.

  • Publication number: 20070112371
Abstract: An embolic protection filter for collecting particulate debris in a body lumen and method of making same. The embolic filter includes a spirally cut outer tubular member disposed about a spirally cut inner tubular member, the spiral cuts having opposite chirality. The embolic filter is transformable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration wherein filter openings are defined by intersections of the spiral cuts. The spiral cuts may have a variable pitch for sizing the filter openings to be larger in a proximal portion of the filter for receiving embolic debris, and smaller in a distal portion of the filter for retaining embolic debris within the filter. In an embodiment of the invention, the length of the expanded configuration is substantially equal to the length of the collapsed configuration.

  • Publication number: 20070100439
Abstract: A ring for surrounding the chordae tendinae of a heart valve, and a system for delivering the ring. The ring gathers the chordae tendinae into a bundle to effectively shorten the chordae tendinae to resolve or reduce valve leaflet prolapse. The body of the ring has an elongated generally linear delivery configuration and a plurality of annular treatment configurations. The body of the ring is releasably carried within a delivery catheter to a treatment location, and a push rod expels the ring from the delivery catheter. Upon being expelled from the delivery catheter, a second end of the ring body will co-axially align with and insert into a first end of the body to form the ring.

  • Publication number: 20060253147
Abstract: A system and method for inflating and deflating a catheter balloon using osmosis. An elongate catheter shaft has a proximally disposed osmotic membrane in fluid communication with a distally mounted balloon through a fluid-filled catheter lumen. The balloon is inflated by exposing the exterior of the membrane to a solution that is hypotonic relative to the solution within the catheter lumen. The balloon is deflated by exposing the exterior of the membrane to a solution that is hypertonic in relation to the solution within the catheter lumen.
