  • Patent number: 10458791
Abstract: A level includes an end cap releasably attached to a level body. The end cap is configured to be inserted in, and withdrawn from, the level body with a sliding fit. Accordingly, the end cap can be withdrawn from the level body simply by squeezing with the fingers of one hand two opposing actuators formed in the end cap against the bias of respective living hinges to release detents from detent apertures formed in opposing side walls of the level body, and then using the same hand to slide the end cap out of the level body without having to touch the level body with either hand.

  • Patent number: 9239217
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a retractable tape rule assembly locking system. The system comprises an elongated tape rule blade, a reel, a biasing spring, a stop assembly, a stop surface, a stop assembly locking device, a housing assembly, and/or other components. The stop assembly is configured to selectively engage the elongated tape rule blade to maintain the elongated tape rule blade in the extended position. The stop assembly is configured to be moveable between a default position and an open position by a user. While in the default position, the stop assembly engages the elongated tape rule blade to prevent retraction of the elongated tape rule blade. The stop surface is associated with the reel and configured to engage the stop assembly to prevent rotation of the reel to retract the elongated tape rule blade.

  • Patent number: 8973273
Abstract: A chisel includes a blade and a first handle and second handle that are each rotatably coupled to the blade. The first handle forms a first channel adapted to receive a first side of the blade and the second handle forms a second channel adapted to receive a second side of the blade opposite the first side. The two handles are rotatable between an open and a closed position. In some cases, the two handles comprise a rotatable coupling such that the first handle and the second handle rotate with one another in opposite directions between the closed and open positions. The chisel further can have an over-center structure configured to impede rotation of the two handles from the closed toward the open position. In some cases, the two handles each form an interlocking component adapted to releasably couple the two handles when they are rotated to the open position.

  • Patent number: 8844882
Abstract: A hanger configured to be mounted to a supporting surface includes a fastener receiving body configured to be positioned on the supporting surface. The hanger also includes a hook portion positioned adjacent to the fastener receiving body and configured to receive a retainable object therein. The hanger additionally includes a first datum surface associated with a first orientation direction of the fastener body. The hanger further includes a second datum surface associated with a second orientation direction of the fastener body. The relative positions of the first datum surface and the second datum surface are arranged such that when a fastener tool abuts the first datum surface and the second datum surface, a fastener applied by the fastener tool is positioned within a bounded area of the fastener receiving body.

  • Patent number: 8117763
Abstract: A rule assembly includes a housing, a reel rotatably mounted in the housing, and an elongated blade having an end hook member on a free end thereof. The end hook member includes a mounting portion having a length dimension and a top surface area and a hook portion having a width dimension and a front surface area, where a ratio of the width dimension of the hook portion to the length dimension of the mounting portion is greater than or equal to 1, a ratio of the front surface area of the hook portion to the top surface area of the mounting portion is greater than or equal to 1.1, and at least two-thirds of the mass of the hook portion lies outside a center section that includes one third of the hook portion's width.
