Abstract: An adaptive system enables providers to customize educational objects and support services to maximize user engagement. The system is a self-service system for education for providers that includes a learning environment with interfaces for stakeholders, metrics for measuring the level of user engagement, and a customizable service configured to maximize user engagement. The system may operate in many domains, such as higher education, retail, government, test preparation and certification services, negotiations, and others.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for indicating to a user of a data processing system having a display a location or locations of information within a presentation space. A first step provides on the display a view window for providing a view into a first region of a larger presentation space. A second step displays on the display at least one scrollbar having a moveable indicator for indicating a position of the view window within the presentation space. A third step displays within the scrollbar at least one indicia for indicating a relative location of a feature of interest within the presentation space. The indicia may take the form of alphanumeric characters, symbols, colors, graphical images, audio information and combinations thereof. In response to a user positioning the moveable indicator to a position associated with the at least one indicia a fourth step re-positions the view window to provide a view of a second region of the presentation space, the second region including the feature of interest.

Abstract: A method prevents an incorrect program version from being executed by a computer system. More specifically, a synchronization key is contained in a load module and is used to encrypt that load module which also contains a protected program. The encrypted load module with the protected program and synchronization key therein is stored in auxiliary storage. The synchronization key and program name are then placed in a table in a secure memory. When the program is requested for execution, the synchronization key in the protected table corresponding to the program name is used to decrypt the load module. The synchronization key in the load module is then extracted and compared with the synchronization key which is stored in a protected table and associated with the protected program. If the two synchronization keys are the same, then the decrypted protected program is loaded into the main memory for execution.
