Patent number: 12259060Abstract: A ball-type check valve is disclosed that is passively sealed by an embedded permanent magnet and a gasket. The permanent magnet is used to increase the strength of the valve seal while still allowing forward flow, and a position of the magnet relative to the gasket allows for setting a cracking pressure that is required to overcome the magnetic force and open the valve. A microfluidic pumping system and a bi-directional microfluidic pump comprising the check-valve are also disclosed. Methods for manufacturing the check-valve and the bi-directional microfluidic pump in a microfluidic chip are disclosed. The present disclosure also provides a syringe pump system that may be coupled to a microfluidic device for dispensing and withdrawing fluid into and from the device. The syringe pump system comprises a plurality of syringes and a mobile plate that is configured to actuate the syringes at different times.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2020Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: Dartmouth Ocean Technologies Inc.Inventors: Sean Christopher Morgan, Vincent Joseph Sieben, Edward Arthur Luy, Gregory Eric Begin

Patent number: 11644408Abstract: An optical cell for performing light spectroscopy (including absorbance, fluorescence and scattering measurements) on a liquid sample in microfluidic devices is disclosed. The optical cell comprises an inlaid sheet having an opaque material inlaid in a clear material, and a sensing channel that crosses the clear material and the opaque material provides a fluidic path for the liquid sample and an optical path for probe light. Integral optical windows crossing a clear-opaque material interface permit light coupling into and out of the sensing channel, and thus light transmission through the sensing channel is almost entirely isolated from background light interference. A microfluidic chip comprising one or more optical cells is also disclosed. The optical cells may have different lengths of sensing channels, and may be optically and fluidly coupled. A method of manufacturing an optical cell in a microfluidic chip is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2021Date of Patent: May 9, 2023Assignee: DARTMOUTH OCEAN TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: Edward Arthur Luy, Sean Christopher Morgan, Vincent Joseph Sieben

Publication number: 20230128837Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are described for intelligent outage evaluation and insight management for monitoring and incident management systems. A set of incident logs associated with a cloud computing service are received by a cloud computing service provider system. Each incident log includes impact data corresponding to a respective incident that occurred during an evaluation period. The impact data includes an interruption count representative of a number of interruptions on resources caused by the respective incident. A total active resource time representative of resource activity during the evaluation period is determined. An interruption rate is determined for the evaluation period by summing interruption counts to generate a total interruption count and dividing the total interruption count by the total active resource time. An actionable insight applicable to the cloud computing service is generated based on the interruption rate and the incident logs.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2021Publication date: April 27, 2023Inventors: Bing HU, Zhangwei XU, Vincent Joseph BLAS, Peiling WU, Chaturanan Damodar MISHRA, Igor FIGLIN, Robert Gerard BOYCE, Anupama VEDAPURI, Oren ROSENBLOOM, Nicholas Anthony SWANSON, Murali CHINTALAPATI

Patent number: 11416786Abstract: Improving the operations of a computer system that is located within a power grid and that is associated with its own power sources. Past operational characteristics of the power grid are analyzed to derive learned characteristics for the power grid. Future operational characteristics of the power grid are also monitored. A prediction regarding a future load event associated with the power grid is then generated using the learned characteristics and the monitored characteristics. In response to this prediction, one or more operations are performed to balance the computer system with the power grid during the future load event, and to ensure a determined availability of services associated with the computer system during the future load event.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2020Date of Patent: August 16, 2022Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licesning, LLCInventors: Michael Rees Helsel, Vincent Joseph Blas, Nicholas Andrew Keehn, Sean Michael James, Brandon Middaugh
