Patent number: 5740933Abstract: A tamper indicating, child proof, container cap designed for easy manipulation by arthritic fingers of a user includes an annular tear strip and a rotatably indexing latch finger on the cap which engages a raised annular retainer ridge with bypass opening on the neck of the container. A tactile indicator of the rotational location of the bypass opening is under the tear strip for sensing by the user's finger that is in simultaneous contact with the cap when the tear strip is removed. A lower ridge includes an index key for orienting the latch finger away from the bypass opening during assembly of the system. The top of the cap includes an extended axial length portion that is shaped for easy grip by arthritic fingers.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1994Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventors: Vincent N. Conti, Don Yeager

Patent number: 4993571Abstract: An improved plastic tamper-evident cap is molded on an internal mold member. The cap is adapted for use with a container having a threaded neck portion at a radially inwardly extending shoulder disposed below the threaded neck portion and facing axially away therefrom. The cap has a top wall, a depending skirt with an internal threading for engagement with the threaded neck portion of the container and a tamper-evident ring connected to the lower end of the skirt by frangible means. The tamper-evident ring has radially inwardly extending locking means adapted to slide over the shoulder. The improvement comprises a trapazoidal frangible member having a narrow top and a wide base. The top adjoins the skirt of the cap at sharp corners. The frangible member has curved adjoining portions between the frangible member at its base and the tamper-evident ring.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventor: Vincent N. Patent number: 4806301Abstract: A mold for forming a plastic cap and a method of removing a cap from such a mold. The mold includes female and male members which, together, form a mold cavity in which the cap is formed. The female member includes an upper assembly and a plurality of cams. The cams have radial protrusions engaging the male member to form annular recesses in the cap. The cap is removed from the mold by moving the upper assembly of the female member axially and the cams thereof radially away from the cap, and then removing the cap itself from the male member of the mold. Preferably the cap is shrunk onto the male member to develop a space between the cap and the female member of the mold prior to moving the female member away from the cap.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1988Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventor: Vincent N. Conti

Patent number: 4555039Abstract: A molded plastic pilfer-proof closure constructed to permit removal from the internal molding die on which it is formed without damage to the closure. The closure includes a threaded skirt portion extending downwardly from the top wall of the closure and a pilfer-proof ring member attached to the lower end of the skirt. The ring includes an inwardly directed protrusion which is connected to the skirt by frangible members. The frangible members are located in axial alignment with the skirt and ring portions of the closure so that during removal of the closure from the internal mold member on which it is formed by a pushing action, compressive forces are created through the frangible member to limit bending and prevent breaking.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1982Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventor: Vincent N. Conti

Patent number: 4534479Abstract: A tamper evident container closure for a container having a threaded mouth portion and a plurality of teeth members adjacent said mouth portion. The container closure comprises a threaded cap, a split ring, and an indicator member. The threaded cap is provided for engaging the mouth portion of the container. The split ring is located generally concentric with and slightly outside a lower portion of the cap and is frangibly connected thereto. The ring includes a plurality of pawls for engaging the teeth members of the container to inhibit twisting of the split ring as the cap is twisted off the container. The indicator member is rigidly secured to the cap and radially extends outward therefrom, between the spaced ends of the split ring, to rub against that ring as the cap is twisted off the container.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1984Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventor: Vincent N. Patent number: 4461392Abstract: Imrpoved plastic bottle cap having a primary annular sealing flange depending from the top wall of the cap for engagement with the top wall surface of the bottle neck of the bottle. The flange is flexible and wide enough to cover a major portion of the top wall surface so as to thereby accommodate surface irregularities. The cap also has a secondary annular sealing flange extending radially downwardly from the top wall of the cap for engagement with the outer side wall of the bottle neck.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1982Date of Patent: July 24, 1984Assignee: American Safety Closure Corp.Inventor: Vincent N. Conti

Patent number: 4387818Abstract: A snap-on closure for use with a bottle having a neck and a mouth defining an opening in communication with the interior of the bottle, includes a circular top wall which contacts the uppermost surface portion of the bottle mouth. A first annular sealing wall, extending centrally downwardly from the top wall, engages and seals an inner surface portion of the bottle mouth. A second annular sealing wall also extending centrally downwardly from the top wall is spaced radially outwardly from the first annular sealing wall and engages and seals an outer surface portion of the bottle mouth. An outer wall, connected to the periphery of the top wall by a thin web membrane to permit easy separation from the top wall, extends downwardly from the periphery of the top wall a greater length than the second annular sealing wall. The outer wall has a flange extending radially outwardly from and along a major portion of its lower edge.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1980Date of Patent: June 14, 1983Assignee: Itnoc Dairy Cap Co. Inc.Inventor: Vincent N. Conti

Patent number: 4322012Abstract: A plastic bottle cap for use in sealing bottles, the cap having a first annular sealing flange engaging the internal wall surface of the bottle and a second annular sealing flange engaging the top surface of the bottle neck. The second flange is constructed with a flexible tip which flexes relative to the remaining portion of the second flange as it is engaged by the top of the bottle neck to produce a flapper type seal. The cap further includes a tamper-proof ring at its bottom end which is automatically torn away as the cap is unthreaded from the bottle.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1980Date of Patent: March 30, 1982Assignee: Dairy Cap CorporationInventor: Vincent N. Patent number: 4062466Abstract: A tamper-proof container closure cap is provided with a self-removing ring which breaks away from the cap in a strip as the cap is twisted open. Specifically, the cap is provided with a pawled ring which is split, frangibly attached to the cap adjacent each end, and free of engagement with the cap for a substantial distance in the direction opposing cap twist off. This structure effects removal of the ring from both the cap and the container as the cap is twisted off.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1976Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Assignee: Dairy Cap CorporationInventor: Vincent N. Patent number: 3952901Abstract: An overcap for receipt on a jar in surrounding relation to a threaded closure cap of the jar and which when mounted prevents tampering with the closure cap and unauthorized entry into the jar interior. The overcap includes an upper surface overlying the closure cap and a skirt depending circumferentially therefrom. The skirt is radially spaced from the closure cap substantially along its length so that the overcap is free for rotational movement relative to the closure cap and cannot be frictionally coupled to the closure cap to effect removal of the latter. The overcap is provided with a pull tab defined by lines of weakness in the upper surface and skirt so that a pulling force on the tab will fracture the overcap from the closure cap and permit authorized access to the cap and opening of the jar.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1975Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: Dairy Cap CorporationInventor: Vincent N.
