Abstract: Apparatus for securing cap type material to a wall at a uniform distance above a floor includes a base composed of a slider and an angularly disposed shoulder. The slider is in the form of a plate that permits the base to be slid along the floor. The shoulder permits the base to be slid along the wall. The shoulder includes a top, a roller biased and pressing against the top, a port through the shoulder and a mounting for supporting a nailer or other strip material fastening means on the base and positioned for securing the strip of material to the wall through the port in the shoulder. The cap type material is positioned at a uniform distance above the floor by passing the apparatus along the floor at the wall while the cap type material rides on the top of the shoulder and under the roller.

Abstract: Paperback books are fed one by one from a supply hopper to a stripper which separates the cover from the rest of the book and directs the book cover to a sorter; while directing the rest of the book for other disposition. A feed device receive each cover from the stripper and moves it to a sorter so that covers are spaced from each other a distance equal to the size of a bin of the cover sorter. Computer and electronic controls interconnect the supply feed, stripper and sorter, and include: a trigger, in the form of a notched wheel cooperating with a photocell circuit, to trigger required cover spacing; a senser to read UPC markings carried by the cover; and control and computer components to divert covers to appropriate sorting bins while counting the covers so sorted. Feed controls are provided to maintain cover feed through the sorter until all covers are sorted, even though feed of books from the supply hopper has ceased.

Abstract: A sorting machine for sorting covers comprises a transport device for moving the covers along a path through the sorting machine. A feed mechanism holds the covers and advances them towards the transport device. A vacuum feed has a first position for gripping a cover in the feed mechanism and a second position for feeding the gripped cover into the transport device. Additionally, the covers are passed in front of a recognition device which is operatively connected to a computer. The computer recognizes the covers to be sorted and instructs the sorting machine accordingly.
