  • Publication number: 20120135191
Abstract: A continuous single-stage embossing station comprised of two (2) temperature controlled engraved rollers which is located immediately after the extrusion die in the manufacturing process for multi-layer laminated glass panels and allows for dual simultaneous embossment of both sides of a polymer melt sheet and produces a polymer interlayer sheet with increased permanence, embossed retention values and decreased incidence of mottle and stack sticking peel force values. Also disclosed herein is an embossed polymer interlayer sheet with a first side, a second side and an embossed surface on at least one of the sides, with a surface roughness Rz of 10 to 90 microns on the embossed surface, a permanence of greater than 95% when tested at 100° C. for five (5) minutes and an embossed surface retention of greater than 70% when tested at 140 ° C. for five (5) minutes.

  • Publication number: 20070098964
Abstract: The present invention provides interlayers that comprise a metallized, embossed polymer film onto which an image has been formed with ultraviolet curable ink. The ultraviolet curable ink, upon application to the embossed surface of the polymer film, adheres evenly to the surface, without undue thickening or thinning in the low and high areas of the embossed surface. Interlayers comprising such films can be incorporated, for example, into a two glass pane multiple layer glazing. Such glazings can provide, for example, privacy for the enclosed space as well as infrared radiation control.

  • Publication number: 20060188695
Abstract: The present invention is in the field of multiple layer glass panels comprising a polymer sheet having desirable surface properties, and more specifically, the present invention is in the field of multiple layer glass panels comprising poly(vinyl butyral) having a finished surface of relatively low waviness and high roughness disposed in contact with poly(ethylene terephthalate) and/or other poly(vinyl butyral) type layers.

  • Publication number: 20060078716
Abstract: This invention is directed to a plastic composite comprising color images printed onto a polymeric support film using UV ink. The polymeric support film layer may be bonded to a polymeric film selected from the group consisting of aliphatic polyurethane and ethyl vinyl acetate. The combined laminate can then optionally be disposed between two layers of plasticized PVB, forming the plastic composite. The plastic composite can then be placed between two sheets of glass forming the final laminated glass product. Preferably, when the UV image is printed on the polymeric support film, the image is only partially cured by a UV lamp. After the polymeric support film is contacted with the polymeric film, with the partially cured UV image therebetween, the laminate is exposed to a second UV lamp operating at full power so as to completely cure the UV image.
